This incident took place on the 400 block of North 31st and 32nd.
The cat ended up between two houses on 31st. My husband and I took
the beatiful, large black cat to the Careytown Emergency Vet. He was
still alive when we took him in, but I am very certain, with the
extent of his/her bite injuries and loss of blood, that he/she either
died right away or was euthanized. I did not have the heart to call
back and hear that the cat is dead; so unless someone else called, I
do not know for a fact that the cat is dead.
Please be very careful around these dogs. They eventually will
graduate to something larger than cats. This poor cat was drug from
someone's porch.
Also, be very careful trying to rescue injured "outside" cats. They
are agressive and fearful. They may attack while being rescued.
They may also carry diseases.
FOR YOUR INFORMATION - I immediately called the Emergency Animal
Control and was told that they would try to get someone out. I
called back after finding the injured cat and was once again told
that they would try to get someone out, but they could not promise
that someone could get that cat.
That is disgraceful and unacceptable. If it had not been for the
neighbor calling 911 and the assistance of a very nice and caring and
helpful police officer, it would have been totally disregarded. That
police officer even tried calling animal control and got the same
answers that I got.
This has to change! What is animal control good for if nothing? Why
are we paying their salaries out of our taxes for nothing? Can
someone please help me with this one?
