There isn't a way to integrate them (though I would be happy to do so if I knew
how the customer wanted the integration to work).
ServiceBuilder will build a PowerPoint presentation automatically, so the user
could import this presentation into MediaShout, I believe.
I don't use MediaShout, nor do I have a copy of it, so I cannot say for sure.
Thanks Chris,

Jason,
We have a customer who is trying to integrate the ServiceBuilder
database into MediaShout and said that there is a way to do this. I
can't find any information on your website about this ability. Is there
a way to export from ServiceBuilder into MediaShout? If so, can you
direct me to the instructions so that I can pass them along to our customer.
Thank you,
Chris Rouse

Thanks for your note, and for your nice comments about ServiceBuilder! I hope it does serve your needs.
Unfortunately, since I resigned from the last church I was working for in 2007, I haven't done any further development on it.
I'd be completely open to having you do more work on the database, and I'm sure the rest of the users would really appreciate that too!
My plans have been to eventually move it to a webserver, so that it's completely web based, with no installation necessary-- but I haven't taken the time or found the initiative to do that yet. In the meantime, you might be able to make some positive contributions to the program.
My hope is that the original flexibility and intent of the software stays intact, and that the many different kinds of users with slightly differring uses will still be able to benefit from it.
What do you think?

I am a Presbyterian minister, Old Testament professor, and MBA candidate taking an IT course. My project is to gather as much information as possible about as many software programs for churches and other faith based organizations as I can find (currently close to 200) and make this information available on a new website that will also include provision for user reviews. Although there are several sites that include information about many CMS and related programs, none that I have found is all inclusive and most do not present the information in a way that will make the potential buyer's experience of sorting through so many options efficient, effective, and reasonably pleasant.
I hope very much that you will be willing to check off capabilities that your software has in an Excel spreadsheet that I am attaching. With the exception of the last category which asks for some very basic information, all you have to do is put an X beside the capabilities that apply. If I have left something out that you do, please add it at the bottom.
Hi Jim,
Did it ever display these fields correctly? Perhaps you're missing
some DLLs that are causing the problem?
If it did work correctly on this computer at one time, there's a
chance you're not connected to the database. Have you ensured that the
back-end is connected?
Sorry for your problems,
Jason

I have the software on a laptop with access 2007 trial version, but I
am moving it to a computer at church with access 2003. When I loaded
it on the computer with access 2003, I got rid of the sb_data file and
replaced it with the one that I had updated with our church
information on the laptop. The problem I am having is when I look at
the service record, in the red fields where it says for example "in
three days" and "week 1" it says '#NAME' in both fields. When I then
enter service information and run the rundown, in most of the fields
it just says '#NAME' instead of the values. I tried reinstalling, and
I get the same thing, but I am using the sb_data file from access 2007
for access 2003. Should I have converted the file to access 2003
first? What can I do at this point?
Thanks.
Jim
Sorry.
For now will just manually backup data file and use, but at some
point would like it to be over internet.
Thanks.

Sorry Jim, now I'm confused. Are you wanting to set up ServiceBuilder to use over the Internet so your teams can see when they're scheduled, etc, or do you want to just have the data available over the internet for you to connect with the Access application?
Yes I would like the instructions. I tried to download doc at the website, and I got page cannot be displayed. Also, I am showing sb_data for my data file, but in the help section of program, it also mentions sb_data.mdb Is this the same thing? I cannot find that file
at all. Is it a network file?

That depends-- are they used at the same time, or at different times?
If you're using them at the same time, then it's more complicated, but it is possible.
If separately, then I suggest putting the data on a keychain drive, and linking "to a new back end" from the settings menu. You can then direct ServiceBuilder to always look on the keychain USB drive to get the sb_data file.
Would you like the directions for using it at the same time from both locations? It involves creating a virtual network between the two machines over the Internet, and will slow down ServiceBuilder's performance significantly.
That really is unfortunate. I'm not sure what to tell you-- since the error is only in the runtime version, I think it's something Microsoft has to fix-- not really sure even what's wrong.
I looked on the Microscoft site, and found the following runtime patches. Maybe this will solve it?
Alright, I got the registration info inserted. The program worked great, I was lovin' it. Then I closed out the program. Opened it later to continue working and received a runtime error -- program wouldn't run. I've searched the message boards and don't see any solution that I haven't already tried. Maybe it's just best to wait on this software until that bug is fixed.
Have you tried uninstalling ServiceBuilder? I remember that some of the users were able to uninstall the program (not the Access runtime), then upon the first start up they were able to input the registration information.
If this doesn't work for you, I can give you step by step instructions for modifying the registry.
There is more information in this group about this error. It happens when the runtime version is used instead of the full version of Microsoft Access, and I haven't been able to figure out exactly why.
I have found this: registered users don't have this problem. So I've created an Evaluation Registration which you can use to get around the problems. I've emailed that to you directly.
For others interested in using this software, and are struggling with
these sames problems, the evaluation key is:

Hi Russ,
This happens when the download is corrupted. Try clearing out your
cache, then redownloading the file.

Hi Dean,
Thanks for your questions about ServiceBuilder. I will attempt to
answer them below:
> 1) Web based. I would like my folks from front office, to worship
> team, to be able to access this tool from anywhere.
ServiceBuilder is primarily an office application. It is not web
BASED, but it is web accessable. The difference is that the database
itself resides in your office, and people on the Internet can be
given access to this information via the Internet. The database
doesn't reside on a webserver outside of your office.
In practical terms, this means that most editing and querying of the
database happens in the office. There are limited editing options
available for people online, but mostly they can only view the
information in the database. Singers and musicians can find lyrics,
charts, mp3s, actors can find dramas, staff can access task lists,
announcements, etc.
> 2) Adaptable to any ministry. Childrens, High School, Staff
Personel,
> and of course Worship Team. Can this cater to everyone's
scheduling needs?
"Any" is a big statement. We use it at our church as the main
contacts database. All of our event scheduling, congregational
management, mailings, labels, reports etc. are handled by
ServiceBuilder. There is no financial aspect to this program, however.
> 3) Cross platform compatible. We are hosted on a Linux server. Most

> problem?
Yes. ServiceBuilder Online (the web application) can run on a Linux
machine or a Windows machine, but the main office application is only
for Windows.
The way it is set up to run "out-of-the-box" is to have a computer
set aside as the ServiceBuilder 'server' in your office location. We
share our server on the same computer that also hosts our Intranet
web site and church 'radio station.' It should be a decent machine,
at least a P3.
