THE COMMITTEE FOR HUMAN RIGHTS IN THE PHILIPPINES
The denial of basic human rights in the Philippines and for Filipinos abroad is costing more lives than ever. A growing economic crisis has put a stranglehold on the people’s ability to survive. No land for farmers and no jobs for workers forces millions of Filipinos abroad to work under inhumane conditions leaving broken families behind.
CHRP believes that for more than a century, the root of these problems is foreign domination by the United States and other economic superpowers, control of our land by huge landowning families, and a corrupt Philippine government which happily serves Uncle Sam.
We understand that globalization is just another term for U.S. imperialism and that in this period of history, many colonized countries and oppressed peoples are waging fierce resistance to protect what is left of their natural and human resources. We stand in solidarity with all our allies fighting for land, liberation and self-determination.
CHRP shares the vision of human rights advanced by the National Democratic movement of the Philippines. CHRP educates, organizes, and mobilizes people and communities in the Bay Area to take progressive action in upholding and
supporting human rights in the Philippines and throughout the world. CHRP:
* Provides educational discussions (EDs) and presentations on human rights and the role of the United States in exploiting the Philippines
* Conducts campaigns focused on exposing and opposing human rights violations
* Disseminates information and updates on the human rights situation in the Philippines
* Builds stronger links between Filipinos in the U.S., other concerned individuals, and people in the Philippines through exposure and integration programs
* Supports and builds solidarity with other struggles for human rights
* Raises material, moral and financial support for human rights work in the Philippines
