Welcome to the Christian Unity network. On the last night before He died for us, Jesus told His disciples that the world would know that they were His disciples by their love for each other. John 13:35. Later that sme evening, He prayed that not only the disciples present with Him but also all those who would in the future believe in Him through their word "may all be one, even as you, Father, are in in Me and I in You, that they also may be in Us, so that the world may believe that You sent Me." John 17:20-21. Obviously, Jesus took this VERY seriously.
But what we have seen for centuries in Christianity is division. We have seen strife over doctrine. Even among groups with very similar doctrine, we have seen strife over what human leader is to lead the group. We have seen strife over very petty things.
So the purpose of this group is to promote discussion of four questions:
1) Is Jesus' prayer for unity possible to fulfill? Can even God pull it off?
2) If so, what needs to happen? How should this be approached?
3) What can we do, practically, to foster more visible unity in the Body of Christ?
4) What efforts toward unity are actually now being made--internationally, nationally and locally? (Yes, announcements of relevant meetings and events are welcome). And what kind of successes are thee efforts generating. Please report! What works, how can it be improved? What doesn't work?
Any discussion related to Christian unity, in theory or in practice, is welcome here. Even opposing views are welcome here--just, please, keep it civil. Links to web sites about Christianity, its doctrines, Churches and Christian organizations, are also welcome.
Although this group is moderated, members are definitely encouraged to submit posts. Threats, name-calling and off-topic commercial posts will be excluded. Otherwise, this is an open form designed to promote unity.
