Re: [chriscraftsail] sail yacht 35 or Caribbean 35

We own "Cimba" 35' Sail Yacht, hull #3 The glass work is ROCK solid,  the hull at the turn of the keel is over 2" thick (have the plug) Deck is solid glass. The S/Y and Carib are built on the same hull design but the Carib a cored decks. The S/Y is a mahogony  wood cabin and cockpit combing suseptable  to rot (easy to fix). Aft cabin hight is low even at my 5'8" but I have adapted an actually enjoy the snug little cabin. bunk length I believe is 6'4" but can measure for sure if you want.  Forward hight is 6'2."  Again a bit of a snug cabin but Ann and I spen most of our time in  the very roomy cockpit. very comfortable and roomy and protected. Bought her in 94, got it right the first time, I don't see us ever selling her.  Oh yes, the righting numbers are VERY good!

Micheal, I didn't do a sailyacht or Caribbean but a Capri 30 about the same vintage.   I have a website showing how and what I had to do to make the changes and repairs..   www.redeemedcc.com       Dave K

Hi,
Looking for an affordable long term live aboard cruiser I found Cris Craft sailboats which would be fit into my requirements.
I like the classic design of the sail yacht 35. Being a tall guy the boat is suffering a bit standing headroom in the aft cabin and the for cabin seems to me not very homely. But this boat was build very solid in the golden age of fiberglass and the interior can be modified. Except the standing headroom in the aft cabin and the missing enclosed second head.
The Caribbean 35 layout seems to me much more suitable for long term cruising, especially when one is not alone. Headroom is from the spec sufficient but I didn't found any measurement of the bunks of both models? But what about the quality of the fiberglass work? Minimum the deck seems to be balsa cored and the hull?
I want to have a very solid boat for probably cruising the Caribbean and later the Pacific.
Does somebody have the information required?

I think Michael had a Cherokee 32 at one time.  Like the look of the Caribbean but based on the sail yacht that I saw,  they are really built like tanks. ...

Michael I have a Caribbean 35 in Montery Bay, west coast.   Built like a tank, with good fiberglass, no chance of getting blisters like the newer polyester...
