EGG ATTACK On Your Car - New technique used by robbers

If you are driving at night and are attacked with eggs on your car's windshield, do not operate your wiper or spray any water.

Eggs mixed with water become milky and block your vision up to
92.5 %.
You are forced to stop at road side and become victim of
robbery.
This is new technique used by robbers.

Take care and Safe Driving.

The Mayonnaise Jar

When things in your life seem, almost too much to handle,
When 24 Hours in a day is not enough,
Remember the mayonnaise jar and 2 cups of coffee.

A professor stood before his philosophy class

and had some items in front of him.
When the class began, wordlessly,
He picked up a very large and empty mayonnaise jar
And proceeded to fill it with golf balls.

He then asked the students, if the jar was full.
They agreed that it was.

The professor then picked up a box of pebbles and poured
them into the jar.   He shook the jar lightly.
The pebbles rolled into the open Areas between the golf balls.

He then asked the students again if the jar was full.  They agreed it was.

The professor next picked up a box of sand and poured it into the jar.
Of course, the sand filled up everything else.
He asked once more if the jar was full. The students responded with a unanimous 'yes.'

The professor then produced two cups of coffee from under the table and poured the entire contents into the jar, effectively
filling the empty space between the sand.  The students laughed.

'Now,' said the professor,   as the laughter subsided,
'I want you to recognize that this jar represents your life.
The golf balls are the important things - family,
children, health, Friends, and Favorite passions –
Things that if everything else was lost and only they remained, Your life would still be full.

The pebbles are the other things that matter like your job, house, and car.

The sand is everything else --The small stuff.

'If you put the sand into the jar first,'  He continued,
there is no room for  the pebbles or the golf balls.
The same goes for life.

If you spend all your time and energy on the small stuff,
You will never have room for the things that are important to you.

So...

Pay attention to the things that are critical to your happiness.
Play With your children.
Take time to get medical checkups.
Take your partner out to dinner.

There will always be time to clean the house and fix the disposal.

'Take care of the golf balls first --
The things that really matter.
Set your priorities. The rest is just sand.'

One of the students raised her hand and inquired what the coffee represented.

The professor smiled.
'I'm glad you asked'.

It just goes to show you that no matter how full your life may seem,
there's always room for a couple of cups of coffee with a friend.'

Please share this with other "Golf Balls"

                      I just did......

The train was quite crowded, and a U. S. Marine walked the entire length looking for a seat, but the only seat left was taken by a well dressed, middle-aged, French woman's poodle.

The war-weary Marine asked, 'Ma'am, may I have that seat?'

The French woman just sniffed and said to no one in particular 'Americans are so rude. My little Fifi is using that seat.'

The Marine walked the entire train again, but the only seat left was under that dog. 'Please, ma'am. May I sit down? I'm very tired.'

She snorted, 'Not only are you Americans rude, you are also arrogant!'  This time the Marine didn't say a word; he just picked up the little dog, tossed it out the train window, and sat down.

The woman shrieked, 'Someone must defend my honour! this American should be put in his place!'

An English gentleman sitting nearby spoke up, 'I say, old boy, you Americans seem to have a penchant for doing the wrong thing. You hold the fork in the wrong hand. You drive your cars on the wrong side of the road. And now, sir, you seem to have thrown the wrong bitch out of the window.'

Cheers !

STORY OF A HAT-SELLER

A hat-seller who was passing by a forest
decided to take a nap under one of the trees, leaving
his basket of hats by his side ..
..
A few hours later, he woke up and
realized that all his hats were gone.

He looked up and to his surprise, the
tree was full of monkeys
and they had taken all his hats. The hat-seller
sat down and thought of how he could get his hats back..

While thinking he started to scratch his
head. The next moment, the monkeys were doing the same thing. Next, he
took off his own hat, and the monkeys did exactly the same.

An idea came to him. He threw
his hat down on the ground and the
monkeys did that too. He got all his hats back!

Fifty years later, his grandson,
also a hat-seller. One day, just like his grandfather, he passed by the same forest. It was very hot, and he took a nap under the same tree, leaving his hats beside him.

He woke up and realized that all his
hats were taken by the monkeys on the tree. He remembered his grand father's words, started scratching his head and the monkeys followed. He took his hat and fanned himself and again the
monkeys followed. Now, convinced that his grandfather's idea would work,
he threw his hat on
the ground, but to his surprise, the
monkeys still held on to all
the hats. Then one monkey climbed down
the tree, grabbed the hat-seller's own hat which was lying on the ground, gave him a slap and said

My mind raced back to my school days when I learnt a hindi poem by Pt. Makhanlal Chaturvedi called "PUSHP KI ABHILASHA".In those days we just mugged it up because it was part of our course, but somehow these lines have got etched in my mind.

Fun & Info @ Keralites.net

This is, no doubt, best peice of poetry from Makhanlal. It accurately represent the pride and passion for the nation.I find these lines very close to my heart. Since the time I read this poem first time in 8th standard, i use to recite this poem once in a week till now.

This poem tells us dedication and patriotism towards our country. The stanza of the poems are really soul stirring. Salute to him who wrote these lines and salute to them who shed their blood for our great motherland

The Yearning (DESIRE) of a Flower

I don't want to be a part of the necklace of the beautiful girl, I don't want to woo the lady love, I don't want to be spread over dead bodies, I don't want to act snob, after someone offers me to the Gods.

Just pluck me Gardner and throw me on the road, which is taken by the brave soldiers to give away their lives for the Motherland !
I pray for the flower's wish to be granted.*Peace*

Why only you?

What shall I do when you are not here?

Can I also come?

When are you coming back?

Are you coming back for Dinner?

Most importantly: What will you bring for me?

A young man was getting ready to graduate college. For many months he had admired a beautiful sports car in a dealer's showroom, and knowing his father could well afford it, he told him that was all he wanted. As Graduation Day approached, the young man awaited signs that his father had purchased the car. Finally, on the morning of his graduation his father called him into his private study.

His father told him how proud he was to have such a fine son, and told him how much he loved him. He handed his son a beautiful wrapped gift box. Curious, but somewhat disappointed the young man opened the box and found a lovely, leather-bound Holy Book. Angrily, young man raised his voice at his father and said, "With all your money you give me a Holy Book?" and stormed out of the house, leaving the Holy Book.

Young man never contacted his father again for long long time. Many years passed and the young man was very successful in business. He had a beautiful home and wonderful family, but realized his father was very old, and thought perhaps he should go to him. He had not seen him since that graduation day.

Before he could make arrangements, he received a telegram telling him his father had passed away, and willed all of his possessions to his son. He needed to come home immediately and take care of things. When the young man arrived at his father's house, sudden sadness and regret filled his heart. He began to search his father's important papers and saw the still new Holy Book, just as he had left it years ago. With tears, he opened the Holy Book and began to turn the pages. As he Read those words, a car key dropped from an envelope taped behind the Holy Book. It had a tag with the dealer's name, the same dealer who had the sports car he had desired. On the tag was the date of his graduation, and the words PAID IN FULL.

Moral of the Story: How many times do we miss God blessings because they are not packaged as we expected?

Subject: BRAIN LIVER DAMAGING HABITS

BRAIN DAMAGING HABITS

1. No Breakfast

People who do not take breakfast are going to have a lower blood sugar level. This leads to an insufficient supply of nutrients to the brain causing brain degeneration.

2 . Overeating

It causes hardening of the brain arteries, leading to a decrease in mental power.

3. Smoking

It causes multiple brain shrinkage and may lead to Alzheimer disease.

4. High Sugar consumption

Too much sugar will interrupt the absorption of proteins and nutrients causing malnutrition and may interfere with brain development.

5. Air Pollution

The brain is the largest oxygen consumer in our 20 body. Inhaling polluted air decreases the supply of oxygen to the brain, bringing about a decrease in brain efficiency.

6 . Sleep Deprivation

Sleep allows our brain to rest.. Long term deprivation from sleep will accelerate the death of brain cells..

7. Head covered while sleeping

Sleeping with the head covered increases the concentration of carbon dioxide and decrease concentration of oxygen that may lead to brain damaging effects.

8 Working your brain during illness

Working hard or studying with sickness may lead to a decrease in effectiveness of the brain as well as damage the brain.

9. Lacking in stimulating thoughts

Thinking is the best way to train our brain, lacking in brain stimulation thoughts may cause brain shrinkage.

10. Talking Rarely

Intellectual conversations will promote the efficiency of the brain

The main causes of liver damage are:

1. Sleeping too lat and waking up too late are main cause.

2. Not urinating in the morning.

3 . Too much eating.

4. Skipping breakfast.

5. Consuming too much medication.

6. Consuming too much preservatives, additives, food coloring, and artificial sweetener.

7. Consuming unhealthy cooking oil.

As much as possible reduce cooking oil use when frying, which includes even the best cooking oils like olive oil. Do not consume fried foods when you are tired, except if the body is20very fit.

8. Consuming raw (overly done) foods also add to the burden of liver.

Veggies should be eaten raw or cooked 3-5 parts. Fried veggies should be finished in one sitting, do not store.

We should prevent this without necessarily spending more. We just hav to adopt a good daily lifestyle and eating habits. Maintaining good eating habits and time condition are very important for our bodies to absorb and get rid of unnecessary chemicals according to 'schedule.'

The top five cancer-causing foods are:

1. Hot Dogs

Because they are high in nitrates, the Cancer Prevention Coalition advises that children eat no more than 12 hot dogs a month. If you can't live without hot dogs, buy those made without sodium nitrate.

2. Processed meats and Bacon

Also high in the same sodium nitrates found in hot dogs, bacon, and other processed meats raise the risk of heart disease. The saturated fat in bacon also contributes to cancer.

3. Doughnuts

Doughnuts are cancer-causing double trouble. First, they are made with white flour, sugar, and hydrogenated oils, then fried at high temperatures. Doughnuts, says Adams , may be the worst food you can possibly eat to raise your risk of cancer.

4. French fries

Like doughnuts, French fries are made with hydrogenated oils and then fried at high temperatures. They also contain cancer- causing acryl amides which occur during the frying process. They should be called cancer fries, not French fries, said Adams .

5. Chips, crackers, and cookies

All are usually made with white flour and sugar. Even the ones whose labels claim to be free of trans-fats generally contain small amounts of trans-fats

a second before tsunami

The last picture! but we must understand that we are small when nature hits...

This picture was taken on the banks of Sumatra Island (the height of waves was of approx. 32 m = 105 ft).
It was found saved in a digital camera, 1 years after the disaster.

We cannot know for sure, but very likely the one who took the picture is not alive any more (it was just a matter of seconds).
Today we can see the last image he/ she saw before ending life on Earth!

Eat Less Rice

The human body was never meant to consume rice! Our genes have hardly changed in more than 30,000 years. However, our food choices and lifestyle have changed dramatically. The caveman would hardly recognise our food or way of life.

Caveman food was never cooked as fire was not yet tamed. Thus, he ate only those foods that you can eat without treatment with or by fire. He ate fruits, vegetables, fish (sushi anyone?), eggs, nuts and meat. Yes, even meat! You can even eat meat raw if you were starving in the forest. You have the necessary enzymes to digest meat.

However, rice, like wheat and corn, cannot be eaten raw. It must be cooked. Even if you were starving in the desert, you cannot eat rice in the raw form. This is because we do not have the system of enzymes to break rice down. You were never meant to eat rice. To make matters worse, you not only eat rice, but also make it the
bulk of your food.

In some parts of Asia , rice forms up to 85% of the plate. Even if you take rice, keep it to a minimum. Remember, it is only for your tongue - not your body. Actually,
rice and other grains like wheat and corn are actually worse than sugar. There are many reasons:

Rice
becomes sugar- lots of it!
This is a fact that no nutritionist can deny: rice is chemically no different from sugar. One bowl of cooked rice is the caloric equal of 10 teaspoons of sugar. This does not matter whether it is white, brown or herbal rice.Brown riceis richer in fibre, someB vitamins and mineralsbut it is still the caloric equal of 10 teaspoons of sugar. To get the same 10 teaspoons of sugar, you need to consume lots of kangkong-10 bowls of it.

Rice is
digested to become sugar.
Rice cannot be digested before it is thoroughly cooked. However, when thoroughly cooked, it becomes sugar and spikes circulatingblood sugarwithin half an hour-almost as quickly as it would if you took a sugar candy. Rice is very low in the 'rainbow of anti-oxidants. '

This complete anti-oxidant rainbow is necessary for the effective and safe utilisation of sugar. Fruits come with a sugar called fructose. However, they are notempty caloriesas the fruit is packed with a whole host of other nutrients that help its proper assimilation and digestion.

Rice has
no fibre.
The fibre of the kangkong fills you up long before your blood sugar spikes. This is because the fibre bulks and fills up your stomach. Sincewhite ricehas no fibre, you end up eating lots of 'calorie dense' food before you get filled up. Brown rice has more fibre but still the same amount of sugar.

Rice is tasteless-sugar is sweet..
There is only so much that you can eat at one sitting. How many teaspoons of sugar can you eat before you feel like throwing up? Could you imagine eating 10 teaspoons of sugar in one seating?

Rice is always the main part of the meal.

While sugar may fill your dessert or sweeten your coffee, it will never be the main part of any meal. You could eat maybe two to three teaspoons of sugar at one meal. However, you could easily eat the equal value of two to three bowls (20-30 teaspoons) of sugar in one meal. I am always amused when I see someone eat sometimes five bowls of rice (equals 50 teaspoons of sugar) and then asks for tea tarik kurang manis!

There is no real 'built in' mechanism for us to prevent overeating of rice:

How much kangkong can you eat?
How muchfried chickencan you eat?
How much steamed fish can you eat?
Think about that!

In one seating, you cannot take lots of chicken, fish or cucumber, but you can take lots of rice. Eating rice causes you to eat more salt. As rice is tasteless, you tend to consume more salt-another villain when it comes to high blood pressure. You tend to take more curry that has salt to help flavor rice. We also tend to consume more ketchup andsoy saucewhich are also rich in salt.

Eating rice
causes you to drink less water.
The more rice you eat, the less water you will drink as there is no mechanism to prevent the overeating of rice. Rice, wheat and corn come hidden in our daily food. As rice is tasteless, it tends to end up in other foods that substitute rice likerice flour, noodles and bread. We tend to eat the hidden forms which still get digested into sugar.

Rice, even when cooked, is
difficult to digest.
Can't eat raw rice? Try eating rice half cooked. Contrary to popular belief, rice is very difficult to digest. It is 'heavy stuff'. If you have problems with digestion, try skipping
rice for a few days. You will be amazed at how the problem will just go away.

Rice
prevents the absorption of several vitamins and minerals.
Rice when taken in bulk will reduce the absorption of vital nutrients like zinc, iron and theB vitamins.

Are you a rice addict? Going rice-less may not be easy but you can go rice-less. Eating less rice could be lot easier than you think. Here are some strategies that you can pursue in your quest to eat less rice:

Eat less rice-cut your rice by half.

Barry Sears, author of theZone Diet, advises 'eating rice like spice'. Instead, increase yourfruits and vegetables. Take morelean meatsand fish.. You can even take more eggs and nuts.

Have 'riceless' meals.
Take no rice or wheat at say, breakfast.. Go for eggs instead.

Go on 'riceless' days.
Go 'western' once a week.

Take no rice and breads for one day every week.
That can't be too difficult. Appreciate the richness of your food. Go for taste, colours and smells. Make eating a culinary delight. Enjoy your food in the original flavours.

Avoid the salt shaker or ketchup.
You will automatically eat less rice.

Eat your fruit dessert before (Yes! No printing error) your meals.

The fibre rich fruits will 'bulk up' in your stomach. Thus, you will eat less rice and more fruits.

Subject: Very Informative.....about aging

Different Parts of body

Different parts of our body ages at different times

WE all  accept that getting older is inevitable, and now leading clinicians have revealed the exact age when different body parts start to decline, most alarming being the brain and lungs.

French doctors have found that the quality of men's' sperm starts to deteriorate  by 35, so that by the time a man is 45 a third of pregnancies end in miscarriage. Here, with the help of leading clinicians, Angela Epstein tells the Daily Mail the ages when different parts of the body start to lose their battle with time.

BRAIN -  Starts ageing at 20
As we get older, the number of nerve  cells - or neurons - in the brain decrease. We start with around 100  billion, but in our 20s this number starts to decline. By 40, we could  be losing up to 10,000 per day, affecting  memory, co-ordination and brain function.

GUT -  Starts ageing at 55.
A healthy gut has a good balance between harmful  and 'friendly' bacteria. But levels of friendly bacteria in the gut drop  significantly after 55, particularly in the large intestine, says Tom  MacDonald, professor of immunology at Barts And The London medical  school. As a result, we suffer from poor digestion and an increased risk  of gut disease. Constipation is more likely as we age, as the flow  of digestive  juices from the stomach, liver, pancreas and small intestine slows  down.

BREASTS -  Start ageing at 35
BY their mid-30s, women's breasts start losing  tissue and fat,  reducing size and fullness. Sagging starts properly at 40 and the  areola (the area surrounding the nipple) can shrink considerably.

BLADDER -  Starts ageing at 65
Loss of bladder control is more likely when  you hit 65. Women are more vulnerable to bladder problems as, after the  menopause, declining estrogen levels make tissues in the urethra - the  tube through which  urine passes - thinner and weaker, reducing bladder support. Bladder  capacity in an older adult generally is about half that of a younger  person - about two cups in a  30-year-old and one cup in a 70-year-old. ....

LUNGS -  Start ageing at 20
Lung capacity slowly starts to  decrease from the  age of 20. By the age of 40, some people are already experiencing breathlessness. This is partly because the muscles and the rib cage which  control breathing  stiffen up.

VOICE -  Starts ageing at 65
Our voices become quieter and hoarser with age. The  soft tissues in the voice box (larynx) weaken, affecting the pitch,  loudness and quality of the voice. A woman's voice may become huskier  and lower in pitch,  whereas a man's might become thinner and higher.

EYES  -  Start ageing at 40
Glasses are the norm for many over-40s as  failing eyesight kicks in - usually long-sightedness, affecting our  ability to see objects up close.

HEART  - Starts ageing at  40
The heart pumps blood less  effectively around the  body as we get older. This is because blood vessels become less elastic,  while arteries can harden or become blocked because of fatty deposits  forming on the  coronary arteries - caused by eating too much saturated fat. The blood  supply to the heart is then reduced, resulting in painful angina. Men  over 45 and women over 55 are  at greater risk of a heart attack.

LIVER -  Starts ageing at 70
This is the only organ in the body  which seems to defy  the aging process.

KIDNEYS -
  Starts ageing at 50
With kidneys, the number of  filtering units  (nephrons) that remove waste from the bloodstream starts to reduce in  middle age.

PROSTATE  -  Starts ageing at 50
The prostate often becomes enlarged with  age, leading to  problems such as increased need to urinate, says Professor Roger Kirby,  director of the Prostate Centre in London . This is known as benign  prostatic hyperplasia  and affects half of men over 50, but rarely those under 40. It occurs  when the prostate absorbs large amounts of the male sex hormone  testosterone, which increases the  growth of cells in the prostate. A normal prostate is the size of a  walnut, but the condition can increase this to the size of a tangerine.

BONES  - Start ageing at 35
'Throughout our life, old bone  is broken down  by cells called osteoclasts and replaced by bone-building cells called  osteoblasts - a process called bone turnover,' explains Robert Moots,  professor of  rheumatology at Aintree University Hospital in Liverpool . Children's  bone growth is rapid - the skeleton takes just two years to  renew
Itself completely. In adults, this can take  ten years. Until our mid-20s, bone density is still increasing. But at  35 bone loss begins as part of the natural ageing process.

TEETH  - Start ageing at 40
As we age, we produce less  saliva, which washes  away bacteria, so teeth and gums are more vulnerable to decay. Receding  gums - when tissue is lost from gums around the teeth - is common  in adults over  40.

MUSCLES  - Start ageing  at 30
Muscle is constantly being built up and broken down,  a process which is well balanced in young adults. However, by the time  we're 30, breakdown is greater than buildup, explains Professor Robert  Moots. Once  adults reach 40,  they start to lose between 0.5 and 2 per cent of their muscle each year.  Regular exercise can help prevent  this.

HEARING -  Starts ageing mid-50s
More than half of people over 60 lose  hearing because of their age, according to the Royal National  Institute for the Deaf.

SKIN - Starts ageing mid-20s
The skin  starts to age naturally in your  mid-20s.

TASTE  AND SMELL -  Start ageing at 60
We start out in life with about 10,000  taste buds  scattered on the tongue. This number can halve later  in life. After we turn 60, taste and smell gradually decline, partly as  a result of the normal ageing process.

FERTILITY -  Starts ageing at 35
Female fertility begins to decline after  35, as the number  and quality of eggs in the ovaries start to fall. The lining of the womb  may become thinner, making it less likely for a fertilised egg to take,  and also creating an environment  hostile to sperm.

HAIR -  Starts ageing at 30
Male hair loss usually begins in the 30s. Hair is  made in tiny pouches  just under the skin's surface, known as follices. A hair normally grows  from each follicle for about three years, is then shed, and a new hair  grows.  Most people  will have some gray hair by the age of 35. When we are young, our hair  is coloured by the pigments produced by cells in the hair follicle  known as melanocytes.

YOUNGEST SURGEON IN INDIA

This lad indeed has a gifted brain.... His parents  used to sell portion of their investments to  purchase  his Medicine related books that he wanted to study and today he gets everything  from people who really want him to fulfill his dreams....

A year ago a footage emerged from a remote village in India . The video showed a young girl receiving surgery to separate her fingers, which were badly burned and fused together. Why did this operation make headlines around the world? The surgery was performed by a 7-year-old boy named Akri Jaswal.

Now 13 years old, Akrit has an IQ of 146 and is considered the smartest person his age in India a country of more than a billion people. Before Akrit could even speak, his parents say they knew he was special.

'He learned very fast,' says Raksha, Akrit's mother. 'After learning the alphabet, we started to teach hi joining of words, and he started writing as well. He was two.'

At an age when most children are learning their ABCs, Akrit was reading Shakespeare and assembling a library of medical textbooks. When he was 5 years old, he enrolled in school. One year later, Akrit was teaching English and math classes.

Akrit developed a passion for science an anatomy at an early age. Doctors at local hospitals took notice and started allowing him to observe surgeries when he was 6 years old. Inspired by what he saw, Akrit read everything he could on the topic. When an impoverished family heard about his amazing abilities, they asked if he would operate on their daughter for free. Her surgery was a success.

After the surgery, Akrit was hailed as a medical genius in India . Neighbors and strangers flocked to him for advice and treatment. At age 11, Akrit was admitted t Punjab University . He's the youngest student ever to attend an Indian university. That same year, he was also invited to London 's famed Imperial College to exchange ideas with scientists on the cutting edge of medical research.

Akrit says he has millions of medical ideas, but he's currently focused on developing a cure for cancer. 'I've developed a concept called oral gene therapy on th basis of my research and my theories,' he says. 'I'm quite dedicated towards working on this mechanism.'

Growing up, Akrit says he used to see cancer patients lying on the side of the road because they couldn't afford treatment or hospitals had no space for them.. Now, he wants to use his intellect to ease their suffering. '[I've been] going to hospitals since the age of 6, so I have seen firsthand people suffering from pain,' he says. 'I get very sad, and so that's the main motive of my passion about medicine, my passion about cancer.'

Currently, Akrit is working toward a bachelor's degrees in zoology, botany and chemistry. Someday, he hopes to continue his studies at Harvard University .

What killed Ranjan Das and Lessons for Corporate India

A month ago, many of us heard about the sad demise of Ranjan Das from Bandra, Mumbai. Ranjan, just 42 years of age, was the CEO of SAP-Indian Subcontinent, the youngest CEO of an MNC in India. He was very active in sports, was a fitness freak and a marathon runner. It was common to see him run on Bandra's Carter Road. Just after Diwali, on 21st Oct, he returned home from his gym after a workout, collapsed with a massive heart attack and died. He is survived by his wife and two very young kids.

It was certainly a wake-up call for corporate India. However, it was even more disastrous for runners amongst us. Since Ranjan was anavid marathoner (in Feb 09, he ran Chennai Marathon at the same time some of us were running Pondicherry Marathon 180 km away), the question came as to why an exceptionally active, athletic person succumb to heart attack at 42 years of age.

Was it the stress?

A couple of you called me asking about the reasons. While Ranjan had mentioned that he faced a lot of stress, that is a common element in most of our lives. We used to think that by being fit, one can conquer the bad effects of stress. So I doubted if the cause was stress.

The Real Reason

However, everyone missed out a small line in the reports that Ranjan used to make do with 4-5 hours of sleep. This is an earlier interview of Ranjan on NDTV in the program 'Boss' Day Out':

http://connect.in.com/ranjan-das/play-video-boss-day-out-ranjan-das-of-sap-india-229111-807ecfcf1ad966036c289b3ba6c376f2530d7484.html

Here he himself admits that he would love to get more sleep (and that he was not proud of his ability to manage without sleep, contrary to what others extolled).

The Evidence

Last week, I was working with a well-known cardiologist on the subject of ‘Heart Disease caused by Lack of Sleep’. While I cannot share the video nor the slides because of confidentiality reasons, I have distilled the key points below in the hope it will save some of our lives.

Some Excerpts:

·        Short sleep duration (<5 or 5-6 hours) increased risk for high BP by 350% to 500% compared to those who slept longer than 6 hours per night. Paper published in 2009.

As you know, high BP kills.

·        Young people (25-49 years of age) are twice as likely to get high BP if they sleep less. Paper published in 2006.

·        Individuals who slept less than 5 hours a night had a 3-fold increased risk of heart attacks. Paper published in 1999.

·        Complete and partial lack of sleep increased the blood concentrations of High sensitivity C-Reactive Protein (hs-cRP), the strongest predictor of heart attacks. Even after getting adequate sleep later, the levels stayed high!!

·        Just one night of sleep loss increases very toxic substances in body such as Interleukin-6 (IL-6), Tumour Necrosis Factor-Alpha (TNF-alpha) and C-reactive protein (cRP). They increase risks of many medical conditions, including cancer, arthritis andheart disease. Paper published in 2004.

·        Sleeping for <=5 hours per night leads to 39% increase in heart disease. Sleeping for <=6 hours per night leads to 18% increase in heart disease. Paper published in 2006.

Ideal Sleep

For lack of space, I cannot explain here the ideal sleep architecture. But in brief, sleep is composed of two stages: REM (Rapid Eye Movement) and non-REM. The former helps in mental consolidation while the latter helps in physical repair and rebuilding. During the night, you alternate between REM and non-REM stages 4-5 times.

The earlier part of sleep is mostly non-REM. During that period, your pituitary gland releases growth hormones that repair your body. The latter part of sleep is more and more REM type.

For you to be mentally alert during the day, the latter part of sleep is more important. No wonder when you wake up with an alarm clock after 5-6 hours of sleep, you are mentally irritable throughout the day (lack of REM sleep). And if you have slept for less than 5 hours, your body is in a complete physical mess (lack of non-REM sleep), you are tired throughout the day, moving like a zombie and your immunity is way down (I’ve been there, done that L)

Finally, as long-distance runners, you need an hour of extra sleep to repair the running related damage.

If you want to know if you are getting adequate sleep, take Epworth Sleepiness Test below.

http://www.stmaryhealthcare.org/body.cfm?id=555923

Interpretation: Score of 0-9 is considered normal while 10 and above abnormal. Many a times, I have clocked 21 out the maximum possible 24, the only saving grace being the last situation, since I don’t like to drive (maybe, I should ask my driver to answer that lineJ)
In conclusion:

Barring stress control, Ranjan Das did everything right: eating proper food, exercising (marathoning!), maintaining proper weight. But he missed getting proper and adequate sleep, minimum 7 hours. In my opinion, that killed him.

If you are not getting enough sleep (7 hours), you are playing with fire, even if you have low stress.

I always took pride in my ability to work 50 hours at a stretch whenever the situation warranted. But I was so spooked after seeing the scientific evidence last week that since Saturday night, I ensure I do not even set the alarm clock under 7 hours. Now, that is a nice excuse to get some more sleep. J

Unfortunately, Ranjan Das is not alone when it comes to missing sleep. Many of us are doing exactly the same, perhaps out of ignorance. Please forward this mail to as many of your colleagues as possible, especially those who might be short-changing their sleep. If we can save even one young life because of this email, I would be the happiest person on earth.

1.If you take a aspirin or a baby aspirin once a day, take it at night.

The reason:aspirin has a 24-hour "half-life";therefore,if most heart attacks happen in the wee hours of the morning, the aspirin would be strongest in your system.

2.Fyi,aspirin lasts a really
long time in your medicine chest...

Please read on...

WHY ASPIRIN BY THE BEDSIDE.....

It saves  lives .....

It is important to always have ASPIRIN in the home!!!

Why have Aspirin by the bedside ?

ABOUT HEART ATTACKS:

There are other symptoms of a heart attack besides the pain down the left arm.

One must also be aware of an intense pain on the chin, as well as nausea and lots of sweating; however these symptoms may also occur less frequently.

NOTE:There may be no pain in the chest during a heart attack.

The majority of people(about 60%)who have had a heart attack during their sleep, did not wake up. However,if it occurs, the chest pain may wake you up from your deep sleep.

If that happens,IMMEDIATELY  DISSOLVE TWO ASPIRINS IN YOUR MOUTH and swallow them with a bit of water.

Afterwards,CALL Emergency and state
"HEART ATTACK!!!"and that you have taken 2 ASPIRIN.

Then, if you can, call a neighbor or a family member who lives very close by.

SIT on a chair or sofa and wait for
their arrival and ...... DO NOT LIE DOWN!!!...

A Cardiologist has stated that,if
each person, after receiving this e-mail,sends it to at least 10 people, probably a life could be saved!

I have already shared this information! !!

What about you? Forward this message....? ???
 IT MAY SAVE LIVES!!!!

Subject: TRUE LOVE

An elderly gent was invited to an old friend's home for dinner one evening.
He was impressed by the way his buddy preceded every request to his wife
with endearing terms such as: Darling, Honey, My Love, Pumpkin, Sweetheart,
etc..

The couple had been married almost 70 years and, clearly, they were still
very much in love.

While the wife was in the kitchen, the man leaned over to his host, and
said: "I think it's wonderful that, after all these years, you still call
your wife those loving pet names."

The old man hung his head. "I have to tell you the truth," he said. "Her
name slipped my mind about 10 years ago, -- and I'm scared to death to ask
the old bitch what it is."

cheers!
