A Bright is a person whose worldview is naturalistic. A naturalistic worldview is one that is independent of supernatural or mystical elements.
Brights can be agnostic, rationalist, skeptic, atheist, objectivist, and so on. There are any number of labels brights might apply to themselves. However, no label at all need apply. "Non-religious" or "uninterested in religion" without any real consideration beyond that might be how a person views himself or herself.
Chicago Brights' primary focus is to promote the Brights movement locally. We meet for general discussion on the 4th Monday of every month with the local Meetup.com group. To gather outside the meetup event for lively discussion, happy hours, dinners, movies, outdoor activities or other social events, simply post a message to the group with your interest in attending or organizing an event.
How does one create a community? By joining with others in engaging activities. Local events are added to the Calendar page. Click Month for the best view of the calendar.
This is a young group, created in October 2003. Please feel free to promote this group by posting about it on discussion boards and telling friends and acquaintances. We're not preaching. We're inviting. Nothing like the brights has ever existed before and we have the opportunity to make it what we will.
For more information on The Brights' Movement and to sign up and contribute to the internet constituency of Brights by simply being counted as a Bright, see the links page.
