40k in Gehenna. The colonists live in bubble domes and tents, yet
they have tape machines. On the other hand, those machines break

Yet, what of this:
I'm re-reading the Morgaine Sage and, on page 98 of the paperback edition,
Morgaine says to Vanye:
"We were a hundred strong, my comrades and I; and over the years we have grown
fewer and fewer, and now there is only myself."

By the time of Morgaine -- which cannot be determined by the Emory reference
since we know two already -- would Union have wanted to do so? At least in their
own mind, the Union leadership in Cyteen was even more pro-mankind than
pro-Union, even if they preferred a mankind with a strong Union presence :-)

Wow, and I thought I'd done a good web search for Cherryh...
Registered there, sent her an email about Morgaine's place in the timeline--will
post any answer I get.........
it would be very hard to do that without serious repercussions on the
union side of things .. they asre too much interwined ..

I'd've thought it was right at the end - 5000AD+? But according to the semi-non-canon illustrated Morgaine books which CJ did with Jane Fancher many moons ago, it was Ari Emory I or II who sent the 100 on their way!
How that connects with the Time-Bubble Bounce Incident-Catastrophe is anyone's guess.
I always assumed, and never asked her :( that the Bubble-Bounce-ReSettling had to be at the end, because it appears nowhere else in the chronology, in_Angel With the Sword_, or anywhere else.
We'd have to ask her :D That, at least, can be arranged.

Just a FYI to those who like to visit the Shejidan site for more Cherryh
discussions, the site seems to have moved from its old url to a new one.
http://z11.invisionfree.com/Shejidan/index.php?act=idx
The old one, as found in the Links page here, does not seem to work anymore,
even as a archive site.
Just an advisement to whomever wants to know about it. :)

Do you mean one of the Morgaine books? If so which one?
All I remember reading is the "Union Science Bureau" sent them out. Does that
mean the gate-closers are all Union??

I know that one of the books' introduction says point-blank that
Morgaine is part of Union. But I've never been able to think of these
books as Union books.
If Union had access to the qhal gates, wouldn't they have easily wiped
out Earth and Alliance? In about 3 seconds of "real time".
