This group is intended for Alumni, Faculty and Friends of the now defunct Chartwell Manor School. Designated as a Country Day and Boarding School, its first campus was located off of Somerville Rd. in Basking Ridge, NJ, (THE CASTLE),later the school was moved in its entirety to the Franklin Farms Gubernatorial Estate on Rte 24 in Mendham, NJ. (THE MANSION).
The school was operational during the academic years 1971-84 and was named after British Prime Minister Winston Churchill's summer retreat in England. It was therefore modeled after an English Boarding School. Extreme discipline and corporal punishment was practiced which ultimately led to the school's demise in 1984. Its one and only Headmaster, Terence Michael Lynch, called "Sir" by everyone to come into contact with the school, was found guilty of child molestation and endangerment and was duly imprisoned. Released after a lengthy prison term, he was found guilty of a second series of events and was released in September 2007, after serving a second sentence at the Morris County Jail. After the death of his wife Judy in November 2010, Lynch moved to coastal NC in fall 2011, and passed away on December 20 2011.
