[D2kdiscuss] Anarchist response to ISO article   Message List
Reply Message #7087 of 101128 |
This letter is in response to the "D2K Victory! What next?" article written
by Todd Chretien of the ISO.

Todd Chretien has created a classic piece of disinformation with his
atricle.

In his article Todd stated that the Black Block pushed their way to the
front of the prison march during the march on thursday evening. Todd
stated that a group of march marshals, of which he was a part of, was
walking at the front of the march to keep the pace slow and that the black
block violently broke through their line and ran to the front of the march.

What Todd has done is to take some facts and skew them to serve his own
authoritarian agenda, that of the ISO.

What really happened is that a group of peace police surrounded the black
block on thursday evening; their intent was to prevent the Black Block from
engaging in any activity that DAN and D2K did not approve of. The Black
Block did break thru this line of peace police, but they were peace police,
not march marshals. As an Anarchist I make no appologies for the Black
Block's action. As an Anarchist I, and most of my fellow comrades, will
not tollerate authoritarian behaviors such as peace policeing.

After the Black Block broke through the circle of peace police, Todd states
that the Black Block ran to the front of the march.

Again the facts are correct but skewed.

The Anarchists did not run to the front of the march, they just kept
walking.

It was a line of ISO members who held back the rest of the march and
prevented it from moving on with the black block as it had been doing since
the march left staples center!

I was walking in the void between the black block and the rest of the
march, and was working with some real march marshals to try to re-unite the
black block with the rest of the march. By this point, the Black Block was
rightfully angry and did not want to stop. After 3 or 4 blocks the Black
Block stopped to wait for the rest of the march.

Again, the ISO members slowed the rest of the march. The black Block again
kept going.

At the end of Todd's article he states:

" If they (the black block) believe that they have the right as a tiny
minority to decide that they will put undocumented workers and the rest of
us at unnecessary increased danger so they can wave their flag and pose in
front of the cameras in their masks, then I say we have the right to
prevent them from doing so."

To start out, this statement is a contradiction in and of it self. The ISO
is an authoritarian organization, and here Todd is arguing that no group
has the right to decide things for others.

The funny thing is that as an Anarchist, I totally agree that no group has
the right to decide to impose things on other groups.

Todd says the Black Block had no right to engage in the tactics that they
saw fit to use and at the same time he says that the ISO, which was truly
the tiny minority in the march, had the right to prevent the anarchists
from doing their thing.

Todd, It sounds to me like you are confused.

Anarchists will not submit to the authority of the state, the police, or
authoritarian protest "marshals" from ISO, DAN, D2K or any other
organization.

The next time the ISO is in the streets with the Anarchists, take my advice
and keep you distance.

I am very, very, angry with Todds attempt to further isolate the Anarchist
movement. Todds article was even worse than anything I have seen in the
corporate press.

Todd, I have a question for you? Who told you to writh that article? Was
it the central committee of the ISO? Was your article an attempt to
demonize the Anarchist movement, because it is growing faster that the ISO
could ever dream of growing?

I want to hear from Todd, or anyone else who has something to say.

My name is Jeff Hendricks, and I am a Local Los Angeles Anarchist
revolutionary.
