Hello All,
Today I visited the Davis Wetlands and and did a quick survey. This area should
be really good for shorebirding by the beginning of next week.
Also, already one very fresh California Gull that looked like it was hatched
last week at the Davis landfill pond.
I stopped into Vic Fazio, just South of the Yolo Causeway(INT-80), to check out
the fields that Dave Feliz said would be flooded during July and August. The
fields that are currently flooded already have descent numbers of shorebirds.
This place should only get better as the days pass. PRBO is doing shorebird
surveys here in the next couple of months and are monitoring the water levels
for waterbirds and shorebirds!!!!
There are currently no Perigrine Falcons so good looks at the birds are to be
had at the moment. Obvioulsy if the water levels are maintained for shorebirds
this summer I can see some of the REALLY GOOD STUFF being found here. The main
reason is I don't know of any time (late summer) an area has been flooded for
shorebirds in the CV at this level before?
Again PRBO is censusing this area so please be curteous and kiss the ground they
walk, as well as Mr. Feliz.
