Welcome to the Cellular Automata mailing list. This message provides
introductory information that will be helpful to you in understanding
and enjoying your subscription to the list. Please read it carefully.

Background
----------

This mailing-list is for the discussion of topics relating to cellular
automata, lattice gases, l-systems, etc. For an introduction to these
topics, some of the more well-known references are:

- "Theory and Applications of Cellular Automata",
edited by Stephen Wolfram (World Scientific, 1986).
- "Cellular Automata Machines: A New Environment for Modeling",
by Tommaso Toffoli and Norman Margolus (MIT Press, 1987).
- "Cellular Automata: Theory and Experiment",
edited by Howard Gutowitz (MIT Press, 1990).

Discussions on the list often cover topics such as practical
applications of CA, the theory of CA, implementation/performance issues,
and discussions of available software packages to perform CA
experiments.

The List

To post to the Cellular Automata mailing list, you simply send e-mail to
cellular-automata@buphy.bu.edu (or ca@buphy.bu.edu). That mail is in
turn forwarded to all the members of the list. The list is not
moderated, so it is the responsibility of the list's members to make
sure that all submissions are topical, relevant, and contain useful
information.
