This group offers practical help and support in building local creative communities. Within these creative communities, small and independent groups can be formed, providing a variety of activities supporting social/emotional development in natural, enjoyable and highly individualized ways.
While designed to primarily benefit individuals with Asperger's Syndrome and on the autistic spectrum, other groups can also have direct access to local teachers, instructors, therapists. There are many skilled and gifted people in every community - professionals, retirees, artists, musicians, storytellers etc. who would like the opportunity to share their skills with local individuals.
Those people also know best how their skills can be used to develop positive life goals and skills for those with Asperger's. Singing, drama, drumming, art, movies, games, trips and more - all provide unique opportunities for self expression, building individual strengths, connecting with community, practicing real life skills - in recreational activities but with the intrinsic benefits of social/emotional development. Ongoing relationships can be built in small self directed groups, while activities change but reinforce each other.
Please take the time to add your details to one or more of the databases. Tell others in your town who may be interested - teachers, artists, musicians, libraries, schools, newsletters, students in local psychology and education departments, etc. - and use this site as a central meeting point to develop a network and build a local creative community - for your own benefit but also for the benefit of other groups. Through the free databases, share with groups in other areas - ideas for creative expressive activities, support, resources, books, links. Also, see www.CreativeExpressiveActivities.com.
We look forward to hearing about the progress of your group.
