If you missed out on getting your GJTB, I happen to know that there
will be a few at the Ord EGB Event (GCWV45) on Sat that will be
raffled off.
If your not interested in GJTBs come out anyway it should be fun.

Hello all:
I just wanted to mention how happy I was to be able to attend this
event, mostly for getting to know more geocachers and caching
together afterwards. But I also ended up with 2 GJTBs to drop in
caches. WooHoo! Oh, but I didn't win anything in the raffle. ;-) I
arrived at 10:30 so missed all the early event excitement (ie:
Expert training, finding 6 caches without gps, finish line dash
accident). I've been reading everyone's logs for those finds and
the event and it sounded really fun. Thanks to all who helped make
the day! I look forward to the next event.

Hello CCGCA members:

No messages since mid-August? I noticed this group has accepted 5 new
members since then. Any news to report down Monterey way? It sounds
like the Moss Landing event last weekend was a big success. How is
that 5 star underwater cache doing in Monterey Bay?

Hello new members! I am Chickasaw of ynots4 and live in Santa Cruz
County but I have a virtual cache in Castroville and cache in Monterey
County whenever I get a chance. I have been assigned the role of one
of several group moderators.

Happy caching everyone!

Hi Chickasaw,

For some reason everyone seems to have moved to the GBA group.  I unfortunately do not have the time to be too active of a forum member in either.  I was going to go to Moss Landing event last week but had to attend my Mother in law's funeral in Bakersfield instead.  I now have a sail boat and plan to go after all of the offshore geocaches eventually, but I have alot of dust on my scuba stuff.  I still get about 10 - 20 hits per week on my 68 caches, so people are still caching the area.  I grabbed 5 caches over in Galt area last week after my third work trip over there to that area, promising myself I would take some time for myself after work, but alais there is always home fires to fight and the need to get somewhere tugging at my shirt tail concience.  I still get all of the group post when they occur but like you see very little movement.  Dave aka SLOIGO

Thanks for the Monterey County and SLOIGO updates, David.  I don't think everyone has moved over to the GBA forums.  I'm a member there but usually prefer the local group emails to surfing through a gazillion topics at GBA or GC.com forums!  I will have to check the Monterey Bay forum next time I visit.

What is the difference between this group and the Geocaching Santa Cruz Group?  I see both use the same logo and I see that you are invovled in both chickasaw so I figure you might know...  The Santa Cruz Group seems to have a lot more activity.

I'm a little further north than you guys (N.U.T.S. Country) http://groups.yahoo.com/group/nuts_/ , but do get a chance to cache your area a bit when we visit relatives in Santa Cruz.

Cheers, NIFTSIX

Well, since you asked... This group, ccgca, was created in April 2004 by redtroll2 (aka: compass_bearing_north), around the time he hosted a CITO event in Seaside, for the purpose of exchanging news and planning more events in the Central Coast/Monterey Bay area.  When I joined the group I thought it was such a great idea that I created a similar group for Santa Cruz County (in January 2005).  Since the logo redtroll2 used on the page was created by a Santa Cruz geocacher, our group voted to have it on our front web page as well.  Back in 2001, when the logo was designed, there were fewer geocachers and geocaches so the name Central Coast Geocachers was created to cover a really wide area, mostly Monterey Bay and Santa Cruz Counties.  Now geocachers seem to stick their areas a bit more tightly than before.

It is true that some of us are members of both yahoogroups, however I feel both groups could serve well to keep us updated for our areas.  I know it has been suggested the GBA forums could serve this purpose nicely as well.  I just don't happen to go there much.

Our GeocachingSantaCruz has become more active through meeting each other at events and having monthly news updates, sometimes we have had contests or big discussions over local caches.  We had to create a second yahoogroup for those who wished to join the secret membership of CacheMedic, whose goal is to rescue abandoned caches in need of maintenance.

I hope this little history is helpful.  Thanks for asking.

Thanks for the inquiry and the history lesson for our sleepy little
group. Let's see....News

1. First off, I recieved word from a Bay area folk that one of our
locals (C Major) was transferred to Iraq and was asking if anyone
wants to Adopt his caches to keep them alive. Here's C Major's
Profile if anyone wants to contact him:

http://tinyurl.com/uljvb

And here's his latest, what should be a 5 Star Event Cache in the
Green Zone:

http://tinyurl.com/yxwxon

2. Gabrielle, I took your banner to the CITO Event on Bald Mt on
Saturday in the hopes of handing it off to Kealia, but I had to
leave before he came. Turns out Ron was busy and couldn't make it,
so I left instructions with Nazgul (Dave), to keep it safe until we
can figure out a way to get the banner back to you. Dave did offer
to make a Puzzle cache with spiders in it just for Ron and put the
banner in the cache, but I didn't encourage that ;)

3. el Jim's Event was a huge success by all accounts. He's having a
non-Event the week before Thanksgiving at the same spot (the 21st I
believe), if anybody would like to log his underrated 4 star cache
in Moss Landing ;) So far I hear it will be Jim, BirdmanATW and
Hotshoe in attendance, and I was planning on crashing the party to
take some pictures, and if if my scars fade enough by then I'll give
it another go :D

Eek, Iraq caching....  I hope some folks from this yahoogroup can adopt his local caches. I probably can't adopt any and think I have only found one so far.  How many caches are we talking about?  Guess I could look at his profile page!

To Touchstone: Regarding the non-event the week before T-Day, is there a general invitation out somewhere with details, or are you inviting hordes of us to "crash the party" ? Could you also explain el Jim's "underrated 4-star cache in Moss Landing" for those of us who don't know what you are talking about?

Thanks for the update on my banner.  I thought Sgt Stitches would have it but hadn't gotten around to asking.  I guess I will check with Nazgul then.  I appreciate you discouraging him from dropping it in a cache!

Before the Major left he sent me all of his caches sans Can't Miss
this Eucaliptus and Girls Rule (which he left for the girlscout
troop) Because Tigger 31314 is going to be here longer, I have since
sent most of them to him and he should be keeping most of the series
up.
On that note C Major is a Resiliant SOB and his most recent event
cache is a testiment to that just as his finding his first 50
without a GPS-r (Amazing)I'm sure his CGB event will be just as
successful as his EGB event here was.

Just an aside, Touchstone, I just put out a spider themed Night cache
if Nazgul is still looking for a cache to put the banner in ;)

Thanks for the clarification Dave. I wasn't aware that arrangements
were already made. I'm glad we're not losing any of his caches at any
rate.

Gabrielle, I'm sure your banner is safe and sound and that Nazgul was
just joking.

For those that want to attend the next attempt at el Jim's cache in
Moss Landing and maybe some dinner at Phil's afterwards here's the
link:

http://tinyurl.com/y4whms

I actually see several problems with the cache having looked at it a
couple of times. First would be the name (Monterey Canyon Cache):
it's not in Monterey, and it's not in a canyon. Then there is the
Terrain rating (4 Stars with special equipment). And that Difficulty
rating of 4 Stars is off a bit too (I could see the cache from over
100 feet away) All kidding aside (and I know Jim is a really good
sport for kidding...nudge, nudge, wink, wink)it's a very unique and
clever cache with high spectator satisfaction quotient.

And if you have a strong stomach, here's my DNF for the cache (in all
humility, I think it's a log entry that even the Sarge would be proud
of):

Happy New Year, Monterey Bay Area geocachers!

I have created a "Challenge" for all of you called "Monterey Bay USGS
15-Minute Quadrangles Challenge".

The challenge is to find a geocache in each of the eleven
USGS 15-minute Quadrangles that surround the Monterey Bay. See the
cache description for more details. The catch to this challenge is
that finds before November 6 do not qualify. Once you send me a list
of your eleven qualifying finds I will send you the coordinates for
the cache location.

This is "macro" copy of a Challenge recently created for the San
Francisco Bay Area called the Bay Area Quadrangles Challenge that has
generated quite a bit of interest "over the hill". In that challenge
you must find a cache in all 70 of the 7.5 minute quadrangles that
surround the Bay Area. If there is sufficient interest I would create
a 7.5 minute challenge for the Montery Bay area as well.

I hope all is well!

Your bud,

Bud 50sumtin

Hi there. I thought I'd drop you a note to let you and your group

Welcome Chris!

As far as activities go, it's probably easiest to consult the calender
on geocaching.com or gba.net (which has a very active community).
Between this group, the Santa Cruz Group and the GBA, I think I can be
safe in saying that there is something going on just about every
weekend.

Hello There
My geocaching name is Triplezzz (one of the three z's) We live in the
Sacramento area. I am writing on behalf of the owner of the cache,
armyrotc1, who has moved away from the area and is unable to care for
the cache.

A few months ago we planned a mini vacation in the Monterey area and
a stay at the hotel right at the location of this cache. I had scoped
out local caches and this cache was up and running at the time, but
alas, no more.

We are hoping someone will step-up and become the new owner of this
cache for us and all the future cachers that will visit your area.

Sincerely,
Triplezzz

Anyone who has TBs that would like to visit Norway this summer should get them to the King City TB Inn (GCJ39X) by Memorial Day weekend...my son is spending the summer with his girlfriend's family, and has agreed to swap TBs in Oslo with Mostly Moose while there.  If you have a bug (or bugs) who would like to head to Norway, put them in the Inn with a note on them asking them to not be taken by someone else. Then, when I'm there for Memorial Day, I'll pick them up.

I could pick up the bugs from a cache (or cacher) in Salinas as well, but I'm not familiar with the caches there and would need a recommendation for a good one.

The kids don't know yet exactly when they will be meeting up with MM in Oslo, so it might be a while before they are logged in there. Please be patient.  They, in turn, will of course be bringing back some bugs from Europe, many of which I will put back into the inn sometime in the fall.

The more the merrier, so get 'em down to the inn!

There is going to be a US Power Squadran GPS class at the Moss Landing
Harbor Masters office confrence room on June 16th. I have seen the
book and it is woth more than they are asking for the class and it will
teach you how to use the GPS units which would be valuable in both
navigation, land and sea as well as Geocaching. You can find
information at the following reference site.

mmmmm a brand new marker... that sounds really cool.   Unfortunately it won't be loggable since they don't update the benchmark database in gc.com.

Monty, those green things all around you?  Those are called trees.  That grey stuff that covers the sky?  That's called fog.  The lack of heat energy in the lower trophosphere in July?  That's called summer in Monterey. And those bipedal hominids that seem to have infested all the beautiful places?  They're called people.

It ain't Nevada, but it's home.  :P

Welcome back to California!

PS:  I was in Monterey last weekend but I was with my sister, so visiting was not an option, rats.  I only found one cache and it was in King City.

Hey Welcome Monty !!!
So you moved to the Monterey Bay. Everybody, we are
fortunate to have this guy here. He put on the most
awesome geocache/off-road experience I have ever
attended. My kids are still bragging to their friends.
Monty, there are alot of great areas to cache down
here. Nisens Marks SP, Fort Ord, Henry Cowell SP, too
many to name.Get settled and if you need a buddy to
cache with give me a holler.
