3) Casa de Luz hosts Wayo's Birthday Party, Friday, 12/11
Join us as we celebrate the 65th birthday of Wayo Longoria, Founder and Steward
of Casa de Luz, starting at 6:00pm this Friday, December 11th. We'll have live
Klezmer Music courtesy of The Molotov Cocktail Band (7-8:30pm) and a meal
inspired by Jewish Cuisine - fitting as the 11th is the first night of Hanukkah.
Also, our staple "Flan de Luz" dessert will be offered as a free addition to
dinner!
If Klezmer music is not your style, we have something great for you, too. We'll
be showing the film "Brother Sun, Sister Moon" upstairs in the Cielo Room North
from 7-9pm. Free and open to all.
Brother Sun, Sister Moon: director Franco Zeffirelli's Shakespearean treatment
depicts the early years of St. Francis of Assisi, who sought communion with the
natural world by renouncing the violence of war and his family's riches. For
some, the film portrays a Buddhist in a Christian culture, providing a beautiful
point of intersection between Buddhism and mystical Christianity. Brother Sun,
Sister Moon is both visually stunning and spiritually uplifting.

"Everything we have, all our great institutions, hospitals, universities,

1) Texas Renaissance Festival http://www.texrenfest.com/

When Fri, Sat and Sunday, November 29th 9 am-dusk

Where: In Magnolia, Texas…This is a spectacular, lush and amazing event near
Houston –… its is a must do!

**Amanda's Ren-Fair Funtime tips:

Go for more than one day==It takes you 2 days just to tour the festivalYou can
camp or go online and find a hotel in a nearby town. Rent a costume at The
Bazaar or Lucy in Disguise if ya like==costumes available on site, I think too!
No costume needed to have fun though! You can start a 'free hugs' campaign
instantly, by bringing a sign, I've found!
hint: this is a xmas theme weekend, so consider that theme in planning your
costume too!

Here are some great shortcut directions from my friend, John Shroeder: (look at
and take a map too—)

-Take 71 east to Bastrop take 21 north/left for 18 miles,
-then take 290 east to brenahm , road becomes 25 miles per hour…
-then take 105 .east/ commercial route… towards Navasota, in Navasota, as you
are going through town, you turn right onto highway 6 for about a mile (this is
a divided highway) and then take the 105 east exit toward Conroe. 20 minutes
down road you are in Plantersville where you take a right on 1774, which has a
stop light/corner store and head to magnolia where the gates to the ren fair
are.

Camping at the fest is available=see the website for info=however, I found great
hotels within 30 miles==
Super 8 Montgomery Tx
this one is 18 miles away and on www.hotels.com they gave me a 77 dollar
rate—and the person at the desk matched it, so ask for that rate:

201 Mesa View
Montgomery, TX, 77316
866-538-0187
directions from ren fair to get to super 8 in Montgomery, take 1774 toward
highway to magnolia…go through the town, take 1488, then take farm to mkt road
149 north towards Montgomery, then take 105 east to the hotel, which is on the
right on 105

Charlie Brown said this, but it's true. LifeWorks helps make this a reality by
pairing individuals with a child or family in need this year. You'll receive a
wish list and be asked to spend between $75 and $150 per individual. Wrapped and
tagged gifts are to be delivered to LifeWorks by Dec. 14. 735-2414.

Chuy's Christmas Parade: Saturday, 11/28/08, 11am: Bring a toy and donate it to
Operation Blue Santa !

Do you want to donate toys, but can't make the parade:
You can do so at off locations:
http://www.bluesanta.org/toy_dropoff.html
http://www.bluesanta.org/
*why not send this to a friend? Let's gang up!

For more info: http://www.chuysparade.com/parade_info.html
Chuy's Christmas Parade features giant inflatable balloons, holiday floats,
classic cars, marching bands and Santa. However, in addition to being great
entertainment for those in attendance, Chuy's Christmas Parade also serves as a
toy drive for needy children.

Spectators are encouraged to bring a toy, which will be collected by 'Santa's
Helpers' on behalf of Operation Blue during the parade.
The parade route begins at the State Capitol at 11th and Congress and proceeds
south along Congress to Cesar Chavez.
The parade will feature all the things that make parades exciting to kids,
including marching bands, fire trucks, an appearance by Santa Claus and giant
floats in the style of a Macy's parade. And the grand marshal of the parade will
be Longhorns coaching legend Darrell Royal. But what makes this parade special
is in its title: Children have an opportunity to give the gift of a happier
holiday to other children.

The parade begins at the Capitol and heads south on Congress Avenue. It then
goes west on Sixth Street, ending at Guadalupe Street.
During the parade, which is in its 19th year, kids will have the opportunity to
donate new toys to Operation Blue Santa, a nonprofit group led by the Austin
Police Department that distributes the toys to children who otherwise wouldn't
get many gifts. Flat-bed trailers that are part of the procession stop at
various points during the parade, and kids run up to drop unwrapped toys on the
truck.
The response is overwhelming. Last year, the parade collected a record 42,000
toys.

***Thought that Counts Quote:
The Guest House by Jelaluddin Rumi,
     translation by Coleman Barks
This being human is a guest house.
Every morning a new arrival.
A joy, a depression, a meanness,
some momentary awareness comes
as an unexpected visitor.
Welcome and entertain them all!

Even if they are a crowd of sorrows,
who violently sweep your house
empty of its furniture,
still, treat each guest honorably.

He may be clearing you out
for some new delight.

The dark thought, the shame, the malice.
meet them at the door laughing and invite them in.
Be grateful for whatever comes.
because each has been sent
as a guide from beyond.

A Gift - Denise Levertov~ (Sands of the Well)

Just when you seem to yourself
nothing but a flimsy web
of questions, you are given
the questions of others to hold
in the emptiness of your hands,
songbird eggs that can still hatch
if you keep them warm,
butterflies opening and closing themselves
in your cupped palms, trusting you not to injure
their scintillant fur, their dust.

You are given the questions of others
