From: Rene Harmon
Today, Our beloved Charlie lost his battle at approximately noon time.
Steve W. was at his side in the nursing home.
I'll always remember what a smart-dressed gentleman he was; his
constant flirting with all the women patrons and his perfection to
make those dull boots glow again like new. And, he had his own way to
introduce Toni Price with flair !!
May we all say a silent prayer for him today and remember what a
positive presence he gave us when he was a constant fixture at the
Continental.

Tribute from Amanda:
a quote for Charlie
from Thomas Moore, Care of the Soul
A transparent person has nothing left to hide b/c of his
self-acceptance. Because his soul is loved, he wholly reveals himself.
He is just what he is, freed from paranoid concealment.
It is living your life with the spiritual radiance of the holy fool==
who has dared to live life as it presents itself and to unfold his or
her personality with its heavy yet creative dose of imperfection.

3) Wow, Champ's service was so beautiful==it struck me that he was
still bringing people together even after his death. My favorite quote
was one of his friends saying in his eulogy that that "when people in
Austin care about you, they care for you.I thank Austin for being what
it was to Champ."
Here is the poem I distributed at the funeral which many of you may
see, and I hope you like.
**********************************************************************
In Memory Of Champ Hood
In Flight
Instinctively,
He spread his arms,
Turned his face toward the sun,
And did not look away.
Ready to ascend beyond his fate
To a new place
Sprinkled with fresh promises.
Leaning on sure flighted soaring,
He defied the downward draft winds
Born in small minds unacquainted with any
Possiblility beyond mundaness.
He stretched his neck
Espying before him a new life.

4) Here is a poem that reminds me of our friend, Champ:When Death
Comes
By Mary Oliver from her New and Selected Poems book:
When death comeslike the hungry bear in autumn;when death comes and
takes all the bright coins from his purse
To buy me and snaps the purse shut;when death comes like the
measle-pox
When death comes like and iceberg between the shoulder blades,
I want to step through the door full of curiosity, wondering:what is
it going to be like, that cottage of darkness?
And therefore I look upon everything as a brotherhood and a
sisterhood, and I look upon time as no more than an idea, and I consider
eternity another possibility,
and I think of each life as a flower, as commonas a field daisy, and
as singular, and each name a comfortable music in the mouth,
tending as all music does toward silence, and each body a lion of
courage, and something precious to the earth.
When its over, I want to say: all my lifeI was a bride married to
amazement.I was the bridegroom, taking the world into my arms.
When it's over, I don't won't to wonderif I have made of my life
something particular, and real.
I don't want to find myself sighing and frightened, or full of
argument.I don't want to end up simply having visited this world.

1) Concerning Champ Hood--Please Forward...............
From: Elizabeth Haynes [mailto:ehaynes_99@...]
We know that many of you have been concerned about
Champ and his health. This is a very difficult letter
to write to everyone that loves him. The fact is our
friend Champ Hood is battling cancer. He is fighting
very hard and we can't tell you much more than that.
Everything that can be done is being done by his
family and close friends. He lacks for nothing but,
his medical bills are overwhelming.
Champ is a very private person and right now he is
using all his strength to do the things that are most
important to him- spending time with his son,
Warren and completing his album. His eyes light up
when he talks about both.
This is devasting news for all us. Each one of you
are probably asking yourselves, "what can I do to
help?" The hard answer is "not much." Champ wishes
for his privacy to be respected and we all need to do
that for him. He pretty much wants to be left alone,
not because he doesn't cherish his friends, but
because he really needs his rest and must conserve his
energy.
There are two things we can do to help Champ. The
first is to help relieve the stress of his mounting
medical bills by writing a check. We all know he is a
giver not a taker and it is so hard for him to accept
help of any kind. The second thing you can do is send
him your prayers and love through cards and letters.
Send him the light. Pray for him. But send positive
and powerful energy his way.
If you know Champ, you love Champ. How could anyone not
love Champ? He is a walking angel. God only made a few
like Champ, aren't we lucky to have him?
Please remember this is about what Champ wants and
needs and not what we need. Do not try calling or
visiting him to send your love and support. This may
make you feel better, but Champ needs your support in
other ways. We don't want him to feel any more
uncomfortable than he already does. He wants to have
as "normal" of a life as possible. Please respect
his wishes.
There is nothing more to tell you at present, but when
there is we have your e-mail address. We pray God to be gentle with
our boy. Champ's Family of Friends

2) Trojan Makes Travesty of Tragedy
-don't open the between america and islam attachment that says lets
vote for peace==
==(note from amanda---howabouta backin up your hard drive!--we don't
need no stinkin viruses! )
Social engineering schmucks create WTC Trojan
Imagine a virus writer with no conscience and a really
sick imagination. The mass-mailing email worm, Vote.A,
is the viral product of just such a person. Pretending
to be a means to vote for peace between Islam and
America, the worm arrives in email with the subject
line:
Peace BeTweeN AmeriCa and IsLaM!
and body text that reads:
Hi
iS iT A waR Against AmeriCa Or IsLaM !?
Let's Vote To Live in Peace!
The attachment, WTC.EXE, carries a malicious payload
capable of deleting system files and reformatting the
hard drive. The worm also attempts deletion of
antivirus programs installed in default locations.
When executed, the Vote.A worm drops two files on the
system: ZaCker.vbs is placed in the Windows directory
and MixDaLaL.vbs is placed in the Windows\System
folder. Vote.A also attempts to download a backdoor
access Trojan that, if successful, could grant an
unsavory third-party the same access rights as the
legitimate user. According to antivirus vendor
Symantec, the MixDaLaL.vbs file is responsible for
seeking out files with the extensions .htm or .html
and overwriting them with the message:
AmeRiCa ...Few Days WiLL Show You What We Can Do !!!
It's Our Turn >>> ZaCkEr is So Sorry For You
The system registry is modified to call ZaCker.vbs at
the next system startup, at which time the worm
attempts to delete all files in the Windows directory.
It also overwrites the Autoexec.bat file, adding the
command to reformat the hard drive. On Windows systems
that invoke the Autoexec.bat file on startup, the
subsequent boot up after this modification would
result in the drive being reformatted.

New Worm Hits Computers and Servers
By REUTERS
Filed at 3:59 p.m. ET
SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) - A damaging new computer worm was
spreading like wildfire across the Internet on Tuesday, hitting
both home PC users and commercial servers, in an outbreak that
could prove more widespread and costly than the Code Red viruses,
computer security experts said.
Known as ``Nimda,'' which spells admin backwards, the worm spreads
by sending infected e-mails and also appears able to infect Web
sites, so when a user visits a compromised Web site, the browser --
if it has not been patched -- can spread the worm to a PC, analysts
said.
So far, it appears that Nimda arrives in e-mail without a subject
line and containing an attachment titled ``readme.exe,'' experts
said.
Internet security experts have warned of the potential for an
increase in virus activity after last week's attacks on the World
Trade Center and Pentagon, but U.S. Attorney General John Ashcroft
said there was no sign the outbreak was linked to those events.
``There is no evidence at this time which links this infection to
the terrorist attacks of last week,'' Ashcroft told a news
briefing.
The worm may have started as early as Monday and was showing signs
of overloading traffic on the Internet, Ashcroft said, saying that
Nimda proved ``heavier'' than the Code Red worm that caused an
estimated $2.6 billion in clean-up costs on Internet-linked
computers after outbreaks in July and August.
``Compared to Code Red, it may well be bigger simply because it can
affect home users as well,'' said Graham Cluley, senior technical
consultant for Sophos Antivirus.
If Microsoft Corp. (news/quote)'s (MSFT.O) Outlook e-mail program
has not been patched with an update that became available in March,
the recipient does not even need to open the attachment to activate
the virus -- opening the e-mail itself is sufficient -- said
Vincent Weafer, senior director of Symantec Corp. (news/quote)'s
(SYMC.O) Symantec Security Response unit.
Other e-mail programs, such as Eudora or International Business
Machine Corp.'s Lotus Notes, require the recipient to open the
attachment for the virus to replicate, he said.
So far, the malicious program does not appear capable of erasing
files or data, but Nimda has shown itself capable of slowing down
computer operations as it replicates, experts said.
``In terms of data destruction, we haven't seen anything,'' Weafer
said.
Experts said Nimda had appeared in the United States, Europe and
Latin America and was likely to spread to other regions as well.
``It seems to be very widespread and (moves) at an incredibly quick
rate,'' Cluley said. ``The reason it's become so widespread is
because it not only travels via e-mail but it contaminates Web
sites as well.''
The worm exploits an already detected vulnerability in Microsoft's
Internet Information Server Web software running on Windows NT or
2000 machines, the same breach that the Code Red viruses exploited,
experts said.
Once Nimda infects a machine, it tries to replicate in three ways.
It has its own e-mail engine and will try to send itself out using
addresses stored in e-mail programs. It also scans IIS servers
looking for the known vulnerability and attacks those servers.
Finally, it looks for shared disk drives and tries to replicate
itself to those devices, Symantec's Weafer said.
Experts urged companies and users to update antivirus software and
to download the software patches, noting the principal reason the
worm had spread so quickly was that people and companies had not
downloaded the free software patches.

>Seven Days of Prayer
>It took seven to create the world,

>Wherever you are, join us for the next seven days "FEELING" this new
>world and praying it into existence. At 9pm EST, 6pm west coast time,
>from September 11 to 18, simply feel the presence of millions around the
>world who are praying for all violence to cease. Spend ten minutes in

>the laws of compassion and peace. Once again, please pass this on to
>everyone you know.
>
*****************************>
>Dear friends around the world...
>
>The events of this day cause every thinking person to stop their daily
>lives, whatever is going on in them, and to ponder deeply the larger
>questions of life. We search again for not only the meaning of life, but
>the purpose of our individual and collective experience as we have
>created it-and we look earnestly for ways in which we might recreate
>ourselves anew as a human species, so that we will never treat each
>other this way again.
>
>The hour has come for us to demonstrate at the highest level our most
>extraordinary thought about Who We Really Are.
>
>There are two possible responses to what has occurred today. The first
>comes from love, the second from fear.
>
>If we come from fear we may panic and do things-as individuals and as
>nations-that could only cause further damage. If we come from love we
>will find refuge and strength, even as we provide it to others.
>
>This is the moment of your ministry. This is the time of teaching. What
>you teach at this time, through your every word and action right now,
>will remain as indelible lessons in the hearts and minds of those whose
>lives you touch, both now, and for years to come.
>
>We will set the course for tomorrow, today. At this hour. In this
>moment.
>
>Let us seek not to pinpoint blame, but to pinpoint cause.
>
>Unless we take this time to look at the cause of our experience, we will
>never remove ourselves from the experiences it creates. Instead, we will
>forever live in fear of retribution from those within the human family who
>feel aggrieved, and, likewise, seek retribution from them.
>
>To us the reasons are clear. We have not learned the most basic human
>lessons. We have not remembered the most basic human truths. We have
>not understood the most basic spiritual wisdom. In short, we have not
>been listening to God, and because we have not, we watch ourselves do
>ungodly things.
>
>The message we hear from all sources of truth is clear: We are all one.
>
>That is a message the human race has largely ignored. Forgetting this
>truth is the only cause of hatred and war, and the way to remember is
>simple: Love, this and every moment.
>
>If we could love even those who have attacked us, and seek to understand
>
>why they have done so, what then would be our response? Yet if we meet
>negativity with negativity, rage with rage, attack with attack, what
>then will be the outcome?
>
>These are the questions that are placed before the human race today.
>They are questions that we have failed to answer for thousands of years.
>
>Failure to answer them now could eliminate the need to answer them at
>all.
>
>If we want the beauty of the world that we have co-created to be
>experienced by our children and our children's children, we will have to
>become spiritual activists right here, right now, and cause that to
>happen. We must choose to be at cause in the matter.
>
>So, talk with God today. Ask God for help, for counsel and advice, for
>insight and for strength and for inner peace and for deep wisdom. Ask
>God on this day to show us how to show up in the world in a way that
>will cause the world itself to change. And join all those people around
>the world who are praying right now, adding your Light to the Light that
>dispells all fear.
>
>That is the challenge that is placed before every thinking person today.
>
>Today the human soul asks the question: What can I do to preserve the
>beauty and the wonder of our world and to eliminate the anger and
>hatred-and the disparity that inevitably causes it - in that part of the
>world which I touch?
>
>Please seek to answer that question today, with all the magnificence
>that is You.
>
>What can you do TODAY...this very moment?
>
>A central teaching in most spiritual traditions is: What you wish to
>experience, provide for another.
>
>Look to see, now, what it is you wish to experience-in your own life,
>and in the world. Then see if there is another for whom you may be the
>source of that.
>
>If you wish to experience peace, provide peace for another.
>
>If you wish to know that you are safe, cause another to know that they
>are safe.
>
>If you wish to better understand seemingly incomprehensible things, help
>
>another to better understand.
>
>If you wish to heal your own sadness or anger, seek to heal the sadness
>or anger of another.
>
>Those others are waiting for you now. They are looking to you for
>guidance, for help, for courage, for strength, for understanding, and
>for assurance at this hour. Most of all, they are looking to you for
>love.

>We love you, and we send you our deepest thoughts of peace.

SENATE TO VOTE ON BUSH BUDGET PROPOSAL - SIGN THE PETITION TODAY!!!
======================================================================
ACTIVIST NETWORK -- People For the American Way
Alert Date: March 30, 2001 -- Circulate Until: April 4, 2001
______________________________________________________________________
IN THIS ALERT
(1) Senate To Vote On Bush Budget Proposal
(2) Sign The Petition Today!
(3) Call Your Senators!
(4) Why Your Participation Counts
(5) About Us / Subscription Information
(6) Please Support Our Efforts
______________________________________________________________________
(1) SENATE TO VOTE ON BUSH BUDGET PROPOSAL
People For the American Way is leading a coalition opposing President
Bush's massive tax cut proposal: a proposal that jeopardizes
everything we care about, especially public education. Recently, the
coalition launched www.FairTaxesForAll.com. We urge you to visit the
website and sign the petition to your Senators.
http://www.fairtaxesforall.com
The first piece of Bush's tax cut passed the House of Representatives
March 8th. Next week, the full Senate will begin debate on Bush's
budget, including his tax plan, and will make recommendations to the
Senate Finance Committee.
The Bush tax cut neglects America's most important institutions and
could greatly endanger our most needed programs. Public education is
especially vulnerable. Massive tax cuts, coupled with President
Bush's proposed voucher and voucher-type programs, pose disastrous
consequences to America's public schools. Sensible and essential
government services, from a strong Social Security system to
environmental protection, face uncertain futures under President
Bush's plan.
The far right recognizes it cannot vote good government programs out
of existence, but it has crafted a plan with President Bush that would
reduce federal coffers to the point that we would have to choose
between educating our children and fighting poverty.
These choices must be avoided, and can be, if the Senate hears our
plea: the Bush tax cut is too big and fundamentally unfair!
______________________________________________________________________
(2) SIGN THE PETITION TODAY!
YOUR ACTION IS NECESSARY!
Please sign the "Fair Taxes For All" petition to your senators!
http://www.fairtaxesforall.com
Forward this alert to friends, family and colleagues.
______________________________________________________________________
(3) CALL YOUR SENATORS!
THERE IS MORE TO BE DONE!
Call your senators TODAY and urge them to vote against the Bush plan.
Tell them that the Bush tax cut does not reflect your priorities and
puts hundreds of valuable government services in jeopardy.
YOUR SENIOR SENATOR: Phil Gramm
Capitol Hill Phone (202) 224-2934
Capitol Hill Fax (202) 228-2856
YOUR JUNIOR SENATOR: Kay Bailey Hutchison
Capitol Hill Phone (202) 224-5922
Capitol Hill Fax (202) 224-0776
THANK YOU FOR TAKING ACTION!
______________________________________________________________________
(4) WHY YOUR PARTICIPATION COUNTS
Your participation is important! Your support in PFAW's "Oppose
Ashcroft" campaign was crucial. The petitions you and your friends
signed on our website, www.OpposeAshcroft.com, changed the minds of
many senators who may have otherwise voted for John Ashcroft for
Attorney General. Your actions changed history and sent an important
signal to lawmakers: we will hold our representatives accountable.
We'll need that same type of response to put the brakes on Bush's
proposed tax cut. The best result on Capitol Hill comes only when we
call, fax, write and visit our leaders to demand our voice be heard.
