I was just wondering why you would care if the rudder will kick up or down. We
have a fixed keel boat that we're not going to beach anyway..... A lot of my
trailer-sailboat friends have the Potter's and Mongomery's with Ida-Sailor
rudders, and they love they. But then again, they beach their boats. just my
thoughts.

not all C18's are fixed keel :) I thought they started out with centerboards and only later moved to fixed keels....
