Description

The Casting List has over 5000 members, from all over the world. NOTE: NEW MEMBERS ARE TEMPORARILY MODERATED TO PREVENT SPAM, so spammers, don't bother! This list covers the following topics: Scratch-building of model masters in a variety of materials, such as styrene, brass, wood, whatever. Production of masters using various Rapid Prototyping methods, CNC machining, 3-D scanning and printing, or any other appropriate industrial method, along with discussion of the various software packages and CAD services available to casters. Making molds out of various materials, including RTV rubber, plaster, epoxy, etc. (anything goes) Casting of the resulting molds in plaster, polyurethane plastics, low-temperature metals, etc. The list is specifically aimed at modelers and hobbyists in any area, or industrial casters, who wish to create their own models or parts from scratch and duplicate them. It will cover techniques, materials, and other auxiliary topics, such as photo etching, vacuum forming, sculpture casting, suppliers, etc. I know this seems like a very broad reach of topics, but many of these areas are interrelated in various ways, and many different combinations of techniques and methods are possible in order to produce a given part. A check of the archives for reference to your topic is strongly suggested before posting, since some topics have been covered numerous times. If you're not sure if your topic is covered here, send me an e-mail at pat_lawless@hotmail.com and I'll let you know. Regards, Pat Lawless, Moderator

when it comes to rigid clear parts i like to use urethane. Most of the time they are fairly viscus and have a descent pot life. If you are using a pressure pot

Re: Pressure pot or vacuum pot?
Overkill in my opinion- it also shortens the working time you have with the resin. ... From: "threefootrr" <threefootrr@...> To: casting@yahoogroups.com

Re: Pressure pot or vacuum pot?
As I understand it it may help to cast the mold under pressure IF you are going to pressure cast parts in it later. You can use a pressure chamber as a vacuum

Re: Uncured supply storage
Silicone rubber has a VERY long storage life. Higher temperature shouldn't affect it much if at all. The only likely change is that it will thicken slightly.

Uncured supply storage
Wondering what you all do with your uncured silicone when the weather changes... We recently got a spike in temps and I'm concerned about how (if at all) it
