I think stateside Kona is brewed in Woodinville. Firerock is my
favorite Pale Ale. I was just on the Big Island. The Kona brewpub is great.
Outside they have a growler shack J What I have found is Kona
is always great but others can have a sour and cabbage like taste. Sunset Ale from
Kauai is great but we got bottles that had this taste. Mehana from Hilo has
some interesting beers. There Red is very good but again I also got a sour one
and the brown at the brewery was sour too. I loved their Proter. They also
have a nice Kolsch called Blue Whale but it is more like an alt color with the
lightness of Kolsch. One bottle I had was brown and found out they made a batch
with 10X the roasted malt but sold it anyway.
Last Tommy Bahama’s restaurant had two beers The amber was fine
but the gold was sour. These were made in CA.
For the Corona drinkers you might be able to find Primo.
Cheers,
Jim

Subject: [cascadebrewers] Hawaiian beer
About a month late, I'm finally throwing a graduation party
for my girlfriend who got her master's degree last month. She wants a
luau, so we've been stocking up on all things Hawaiian. I've managed to
find 3 brews from Kona, but that's it for Hawaiian beer. Maybe it's just
a sign I'm getting old, but it seems like yesterday I was getting a wheat beer
in bottles at the local supermarket from Waimea Brewing. Did they go
under? I know the Kirkland brew pub where we used to have BJCP classes is
gone, but I didn't know the whole company went under. And are there any
other Hawaiian breweries that sell beer locally? That normally awesome
beer store on Aurora had only two of the three varieties of Kona available at
Top Foods.
