Description

This group is for relatives of Capt. Robert W. Andrews.
Capt. Robert W. Andrews born July 4, 1790 and died October 11, 1894.
Pictured here are Capt. Robert W. Andrews with his dog Fido.
Picture believed to be c.1887. Capt. Robert W. Andrews was known as "the greatest pedestrian of the western continent"(Troy, Alabama Paper 1884). He walked many times from Sumter, South Carolina to Boston and even out
west. With him on his trips was his little dog Fido. Fido was a mix russian terrier and fice. Robert was married first to Harriet Starks whom he had no children with and second to Mary Conners whom he had 12 children. His auto-biography "The Life and Adventures of Capt. Robert W. Andrews of Sumter, South Carolina" was published in 1887 by E. P. Whitcomb in Boston. My grandfather(which was his grandson) re-published it in 1968 to
raise money to buy Capt. Robert's and Mary's tombstone, which he
did. I have had the pleasure to find relatives located in Texas
and Alabama that are Capt. Robert's brother James N. Andrews
descendants. I hope this page will find more relatives and
spark and interest in finding out more about our ancestors.
As Capt. Robert would say,
"Very respectfully",
Sherri Brewer
