Maybe the same way Hitler an Dr Robotnic did it. Check out their origins...they started out as great humanitarians (supposedly) worked their way into political positions of power then started rewriting everything to suit their needs. Lol, the look on the kings face when robotnics siege took place was very telling.

Subject: [captainpower] The show's timeline
I've been trying to work out a timeline for the show. Where I get mired down is the "before" time when Taggart was getting ready to take over. He would have had to recruit help, establish bases, get the Dread Youth set up, ammunition, communications, transportation -- everything necessary for a worldwide coup. What I can't figure out is how he did all this, when he did all this, and how no one figured out that he was up to something and tried to stop him.
Dread's been in power for 15 years, but the Dread Youth would have been around longer than that. Where did these kids come from? How did Dread get them?
In order to stop any kind of attack from any country still capable of an attack, he'd have had to put spies in locations to muck up the works and control the retaliatory weapons.
Some of the things he would have had to do in order to take over would have been very apparent and probably disguised as something else . For instance, the biodreads may have been "designed" as military drones so they were seen but no one considered them a threat until the order to attack came through. He could have set up schools for certain individuals, only these kids were being taught the litanies of anti-life and mom and dad didn't know. Still, it would have taken years to amass the resources needed to do what he did and stay in power even after the first attack. There would have been retaliations of some sort worldwide.
Is there anything on the show that establishes the timeline and the method of how Dread came to power and stayed there?

There's that perspective, too. :) It
could be considered a bad ending like Retribution Part 2 was.
The comic book can join the line of things
that were left dangling on cliffhangers. Soap, Reboot, The
Terminator TV show.

They never did. Issue 2 was the last issue
published of the Captain Power comic book. So, it ended on a
cliffhanger.

I remember reading or hearing it somewhere that Jennifer had been digitized by Blastaar. It was the same source that hinted about Jon Power's mother appearing in a later season.
As I understood- it was the blasted toy-tie in that Mattel demanded. Despite the unique concept, that as far as I know has not been repeated, it was not well received. Cast and crew were skeptical. When the toys failed to meet sales expectations- Mattel pulled the plug. I believe that is it very possible that Jessica would have had a different position with her contract if this tie-in had not existed.
I want to get my hands on a copy of `the book' – the CP show-bible. Perhaps the answers are within for the characters and scenarios.

That's nothing, I remember seeing captain power digitized in the first CP comic. While visiting a grave. By Blastarr ofcoarse.

I think nowadays it is hard to find new actors for re-cast.
I have another theory.
Probably Jennifer die but, there is some kind of device to return her alive.
A Secret device that we do not know (unknown). From de Metal Wars hidden in somewhere or created by Lord Dread. And that is a theme for another story; to capture that device in a dangerous mission.
In Volcania.
As I said everything can happen...in the series.
Have a nice weekend!
Bye!

I'd love to see the show come back. I've often wondered -- which actors would be good choices for the characters if they were re-cast?

Captain Power on the level of Band of Brothers? That would be an incredible remake of the show. I loved Band of Brothers. It's a great mini-series. One thing about that mini-series is that not only do we see ordinary people become extraordinary heroes, but they also retain their humility and "ordinariness" in an un-ordinary situation.
They kept their humor in the midst of an enemy attack. They could still crack jokes on patrol. They banded together in times of tragedy and supported each other as best they could from day to day. When they're in the woods above Foy, you can really see it.
Sometimes, You have to get a cold point of view. Since, I watched The Series; Band of Brothers. Since then, I realized that everything can happend in a series. It may be is because the sad stories make the series better not everything can be a happy ending.
She's just a K.I.A. She fought with honor and courage.
That it gives a strong message to the audience from Lord Dread; He's really Evil. Like Lord Vader when he was introduced.
Could you imagine Captain Power in a level like Band of Brothers projected to the future?
It's Chaos.
And this kind of series really become serious. Otherwise it is a joke.
Since they didn't show 'exactly' what happened by letting us see inside the room moment by moment when it exploded, then we get to speculate over the various contingencies that could have happened in that moment. :)
That was the last show that aired...that I seen anyway. I was under the impression that she blew up both her and Blastarr . Which was some relief back then, I was little and that particular villain was scary.
Subject: [captainpower] Re: Could Dread work with Jon against Overmind ever?
I just checked the end credits of 'Summoning Part 1' and they spelled it Laccki.
I don't know about anyone else- I'm going on the assumption that Pilot was digitized by Blastaar in that final moment. no, it's not a pleasant thought. Still, I prefer it to thinking she's dead.

Well! not the same story of course. I mean a different story with the same level of action.
One thing it is sure. It hurts when a beautiful soldier (warrior) - Heroin die.
Her death always will be remembered.
But, Captain Power will come back some day.
And he must be Reactivated, Reinstated, Reloaded and Re-armed with new powerful weapons. Yeah!
Definitely I will buy the DVD'S this Christmas. I'll keep in touch!

I believe it was Jessica Steen who only wanted to be in the show one season. So, the writers made the most of it by investing audience time in the character, becoming attached to her. That would then drive home her death as a far more personal loss for the viewer.

I've heard both stories -- she was dead, never coming back versus she was digitized. I think the producers killed off the character and the fans wanted the character back. I know I wasn't happy when that last episode aired. I like the idea that she survived by being digitized and could be rescued.
I remember other stories that were circulating at the time the show was on. There were write-ups in in the scifi mags like Starlog about it. I don't know what the truth really was then, but in my little world, Jennifer's alive. :) It works better for writing fics and playing with the plot bunnies. *g*

Nope, Jennifer's not dead. She's still alive. We can make her alive in various ways -- digitization, the room she was in didnt' explode, Blastarr blocked the blast -- you name it, we can claim it. :)

Since they didn't show 'exactly' what happened by letting us see inside the room moment by moment when it exploded, then we get to speculate over the
various contingencies that could have happened in that moment. :)

That was the last show that aired...that I seen anyway. I was under the impression that she blew up both her and Blastarr . Which was some relief back then, I was little and that particular villain was scary.

I just checked the end credits of 'Summoning Part 1' and they spelled it Laccki.

Subject: [captainpower] Who knew Jennifer was a Dread Youth?
I'm working on a story where the team meets up with another resistance group, and they know that Jennifer was in the Dread Youth. That got me thinking -- would Jennifer's past be common knowledge? In Freedom One, the spy had to tell Dread about Jennifer, and Dread didn't know. I find that a little odd that over the years, Dread never learned that one of his youth leaders was now a member of the team he considered his worst enemies.
Also, would anyone in the resistance be willing to trust someone who used to be the enemy no matter how many times they proved they had joined the good guys?
Then I wondered, wouldn't Dread have learned absolutely everything he could find out about the Power Team? Knowing one's enemies would seem to be a logical step for him.

Perhaps she was his spy and this encounter allowed her to rejoin his side with all Powers secrets...and still fake her death.

I haven't had a chance to rewatch Flame Street yet. :( It's next. ::looks at calender:: We need more hours in the day, more days in the week, longer weekends....
I'm leaning toward the idea that most people weren't aware of Jennifer's background. Given the way civilians hated the Dread Youth and the way they loved Power's team, I'm guessing that it's not common knowledge. I do think that a couple of other active resistance cells that the Power Team trusted may have known but no one volunteered the information. There would have to be teams working together from time to time and things could get said or overheard way too easily.

Dread knew exactly who she was. In fact he had "seen" her in Jon's mind in Flame Street....he just didn't know she was the one who was going to ferry Elzer. I always took her explaining who Pilot was as a show of conempt and disgust which she certainly would have.
I have often wondered about whether her background was common knowledge or not. I do agree a LOT of people would take issue with where she came from.
