As you are no doubt aware, the state of California is experiencing serious
financial issues. These financial problems have translated into reductions in
revenue from the state to school district budgets. Our district has a strong
history of fiscal restraint and conservative budgeting. Nevertheless, the Board
of Trustees is currently considering two items that may be of interest to
district parents. First, the Board is considering increasing bus fees. Fees
were set at one dollar per day in 1995 and have not been raised since. Second,
Cambrian School District does not charge any fees for after school sports at
Price Middle School. A review of neighboring districts shows that most have
instituted fees for such programs. The Board is considering implementing fees
of approximately $80 per student for each sport with scholarships available as
needed. The Board will be discussing these two items at its next meeting on May
26. The Board meeting will start at 7:30 p.m. in the Board Room which is
located behind the District Office.
