hello guinea pigs,
I'd like to check that unsubscribing and subscribing works properly and to
receive any comments people might have about the process.
Please could you each test it by unsubscribing and then subscribing again?
Many thanks

Very good! It's an amazing bridge. It looks as if it stands on concrete
piles but the water is 500m deep and in fact the islands are floating! I
hope we don't pull the road away!

I'm currently tied up to a bridge in Salhus fjord near Bergen. It's cold
and wet and dark most of the time.

I think I've answered my own question. When you join a yahoo group you
can list the email addresses of other members, but they are all truncated
to prevent spammers getting access. Only the moderatros can see the names
in full.

I have (I thought) always sent unbroken lines allowing the receiving program to
do the wrapping. I'll send this one direct as well as via the list to see if
there is any diffrerence.

being easier to hide viruses in?

Perhaps you should give some guidance in your footer as to how, when
replying, to drag the cursor over un-needed parts of the original
message and hit the delete button?

Using Agent for email, I appear to be getting plain text. If a post
contains HTML, it usually shows as an attachment icon. I am not
getting that at the moment.
Derek Stanley
I ramble to myself......
The ukwaterways server shuts down at the end of January. I'd like to do the
switch before then so I can use the old server to point new subscribers to the
new one.
I can convert the ukwaterways server to be 'announcement only' so once people
have migrated to the new server they cannot post to the old one. I can also
probably set the 'rejected posting' message so it sends a reminder of the new
posting address.
There are several ways to migrate:
1) move everyone without requiring a confirmation email
2) move everyone but require a confirmation email
3) give instructions and ask people to enrole themselves
it depends on whether I want to keep all 133 members or to use this as a chance
to weed the list down.

i am posting this from the WWW interface to see if it works.
At present people seem to get a default of HTML messages which I would

I have subscribed bye email, by the button on my webpage and by the

I appear to have subscribed to the list via email successfully but as
I suspected, none of the web page facilities have working links for
me.
On the right of the web page, I am told that I am not recognised as a
member of the group and am instructed to link my email address to a
Yahoo ID.
I managed to get Yahoo to generate a new password earlier as my normal
one wouldn't work but as yet the new one doesn't either. When it does,
I'll add it to "My Groups" and see what difference that makes.

Hi Robert, Well, I could never resist being a technology Guinea pig..
I joined via the web. It was easy but the terse demand for an authorisation
code fooled me for a minute or two - it wsn't very obvious that it would be
emailed. However it was - very quickly, I pasted the result into the web
page - address for which was emailed at the same time. I then just
clicked on Join and I was in. The process is mildly tortuous but is easy
enough to follow step by step.
It may have been made either easier or more difficult - I can't tell - by
my having a Yahoo ID alaready ('cos I subscribe to a couple of Clubs - note
that Yahoo Clubs are being merged with Yahoo Groups soon, just to further
confuse things.)
I could try joining by email using an alter ego, if that would help.
