Toronto Life Skills is developing accreditation process so
that Life Skills Coaches can gain recognition for a professional level
of
competency. We have designed the profile of competencies, learning
outcomes and unit objectives that will be used to identify, evaluate
and
measure a coach’s skill set. Currently, we are designing the process
by
which candidates can enter the program, engage in appropriate learning
activities and apply for accreditation. To that end we need your
help.
The Life
Skills Accreditation Advisory Team will contribute
their opinions, feedback and suggestions for the development and
assessment of
an accreditation process.
What we are
looking for in an
Advisory Team Member
Advisory
Team members will have a thorough understanding of the
Life Skills model, experience in delivering Life Skills programs and
have some
specific area of expertise that would contribute to the understanding
of
learning processes, skills acquisition and evaluation. We are looking
for
a group of individuals from a broad spectrum of fields, services and
experience. The time commitment required will not exceed two hours
participating in short teleconference calls, and/or telephone
conversations on a one-to-one basis.
If you feel that this would be a wonderful way
for you to contribute to the field of Life Skills Coaching please
contact
Louise Cohen atlcohen@...or 416 531-3900, ext 22.
Thanks for the info. This event looks like it will showcase an amazing collection of ancient and modern wisdom that is based on science and spirituality. We are SO fortunate to be part of our Earth School`s Graduation Celebration!!!! :) Tia

"Just to let everyone know, SLSA is still an official organization and we are ready to do accreditation any time someone commits to the process."
I and my family would like to commint to such a process because of the needs that are growing by leap and bounds, when it comes to mental health issues that are caused very often because of the lack of Life Skills.
Our intent is to build a media venue to complement the Life Skills process with the model that establishes the Outreach Incentive Process. This process is to move from patient to client to partner.
I and my family volunteer to begin from patient and to move on with the established order of Life Skills practitioners until the Outreach Incentive Process is ready to be deployed with the chain-reaction from patient to client to partner.
Once ready, this media aproach could be used as a model equipped with a set of tools by all levels of governments in Canada, going from the school boards to municipal to provincial to federal governments and of course, directly to big business indirectly to small businees, via the local Chambers of Commerce.
Offered as a possible item of the 40th.
Any interest to support our offer?

Hi Rod,
It would be so awesome if some of the pioneers showed up. On Oct. 19, Kathie Bird and I will be starting our 7th LSCT group in Prince Albert, the birthplace of life skills.
We discuss accreditation as part of our orientation. Kathie said you told her that an announcement was posted saying that accreditation no longer exists in Canada. I searched the calsca archives and read your Dec. 9/06 mssg:
Hi Greg – The Life Skills Coaches Association of BC died off a few years ago.The accreditation information on the CALSCA website is historical and archival. As far as I know, no one in Canada except perhaps the Alberta Association of Professional Life Skills Coaches is accrediting coaches, though various coach trainings have adapted the competencies to their needs. I’m sorry that I can’t be of more help.
Just to let everyone know, SLSA is still an official organization and we are ready to do accreditation any time someone commits to the process.
Although we've encouraged our 60 LSCT grads to call a SLSA mtg., no one has. Since 2009 is our anniversary year, I checked with Marg Foster and Kathie and they agreed this is a fine time for an Anniversary Celebration AGM!
Happy Thanksgiving to everyone!!I give thanks for all the Coaches who are doing excellent work all around the world - and special thanks to you for your many contributions to CALSCA!! :) Tia

Hi all. As one of the "pioneers/designers" (officially now known as Geezers or Geezeretts) I too would like to attend the 40th anniversary of SNS and LS in beautiful Saskatoon. However, it's very unlikely (money and Sask on Dec 12th!!!) I know the talk about global warming and all but I might expire if it's minus 30-50 -- F or C; take your pick -- it's still damn cold and the wet coast (Greater Vancouver in South Delta) has softened me considerably temperature wise. We're now officially weather/temperature wimps!
I'm very pleased that LS (SNS version) has survived all these years. By the way, I have available a workshop package I put together called "Success over distress (lite)"; rationale background paper and workshop manual. If anyone wants it please back channel me and I'll send it to you.
Cheers, Phil.

Salut everyone,
I have just join the group. I am a 50 years old stay-at-home-dad. I stay home
with our daughter who needs daily living assistance as she was born with
spinabifida, along with certain complications.
We have 4 children of 27, 26, 23 and 22.
My wife works as a property manager for an inner city housing society in
Edmonton.
As of today, March 17, 2009, I am looking at joining the Life Skills Coaching
effort.
After a short search on google, I came across some info that took me to several
pages and one of them offered this listserver of calsca; so here I am.
If anyone has the time to take me on and to lead me toward the best way to join
the Life Skill forces and to show me how we could all benefit from such a move,
I'd be very grateful.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
