Re: [4-H Record Book] Citizenship Examples, and Parade

Citizenship activities can include a variety of activities both in a project or
more general for the PDR. Unfortunately our 4-H program here in Contra COsta
County is in danger of being shut down so we have been speaking in front of the
Board of Supervisors, CIty Councils, written letters to local & state officials,
attend a mayors conference. Historical events and touring historical sites,
leading the flag salute at a 4-H event, working on environmental clean-ups like
coastal clean up day. For some of our projects?so the APR sections we have 1)
Record Keeping project that adopted a creek and monitor water flow, levels,
etc..wild life, amounts of trash and sources..2) for a Dutch Oven Project we
cooked a cobbler and delivered it to a fire station, collected cans for local
food bank, work at a 4-H scholarship event,3) Horse Project we have gone
Christmas Caroling with a team of draft horses, collected cans for local food
bank, Collected and recycled cans for AQHA Research Foundation and UC DAVIS
EQUINE Research. 4) Dog project collected items for the local shelter. 5) Art
Project made valentines for a convalescent hospital and delivered them.
Hope this helps,

Joni Smith Delta-Diablo

Contra Costa County

Our club counts the Veteran's Day Parade participation as Citizenship. I would
count the design and putting together the float as a committee. That committee
participation could go under #4, leadership.

Hi,

Could you please send me some concrete examples for Citizenship activities?

Also, where do you count: Helping to put together a float and/or riding on the
float in the parade?

Thanks All!

Susan

Bev,     The activities you have listed sound like community service to me.  Where are they listed as leadership?  The Leadership category should include...

I would say that it depends on the activity or service being performed. But as far as I can tell, as long as the member is not getting paid for the "work" it...

It sounds like your club may be counting these as committees as opposed to community service.  We have a few items in our club that could go either way, so in...

I have pasted in the section of the record book manual on community service. It seems to me that you could argue that the work at the fair could be counted as...
