Description

Building Communities is a cross-national discussion group that provides an open forum for the discussion of current events that affect us all as we build, and are shaped by, our communities and affiliations. Our focus is on understanding current events in their complexity and as they affect our members in their many different affiliations and concerns.

During school sessions, most of our community here is comprised of our students and the larger group of our community contacts at our local colleges. But all are welcome. Our goal is to build meaningful discussions, issue-oriented, supported by substantial factual information, colored appropriately by the many perspectives our members represent.

Our website, (http://oldweb.uwp.edu/academic/criminal.justice/default.htm), Dear Habermas, offers brief background information on each of our topics, with appropriate links to further information.

Susan and Jeanne, our moderators, (pictured here) ask that members respect that this is a learning community, aimed at building conversation that can help us all make more effective decisions in discharging our responsibilities to our communities, local, regional, ethnic, national, global, and in helping those communities to grow and strengthen in the support of all their members.

Moderators are Jeanne Curran, Professor Emeritus, Department of Sociology, California State University, Dominguez Hills. and Susan R. Takata, Chair, Department of Criminal Justice, University of Wisconsin, Parkside.
