Description
Welcome to METRO BIRDING BRIEFS, a new e-mail board for the exchange of newsworthy bird sightings in the NY metro area.
The need for this service arises from an increased demand by active field
observers for succinct, rapidly available, relevant information which can be
acted upon quickly. To state the obvious: rare birds are often present for
short periods of time and this service will be set up to provide the most
timely information available for interested birders to pursue
Reported sightings should be only those of rarely occurring birds or any other unusual bird one might be willing to chase.
The area of coverage is from Montauk to Cape May and points north. This area should be able to be driven on a round trip basis in one day from NYC.
If you would like to participate, just follow these simple guidelines:
1. Submit only newsworthy sightings. (Please, no day lists or narratives).
2. Submit only sightings from the defined area. (See above).
3. Include your name, date, time, description of bird(s), location, directions, and any other information you think would be helpful to other birders interested in seeing the bird(s) themselves.
The list will NOT be moderated except for keeping the format within the guidelines described above.
This board is now available. If interested, please send your name and e-mail address to Lloyd Spitalnik at:

If in the field, you can call me at 917-301-8744 and I will post your sighting(s) for you.
