Re: [Britain to Canada Immigration] Medicals and after

Hi Melanie

I'm being facetious,of course,  but my wife is pretty apprehensive about the
whole thing - rightly so of course, as its such a huge step. Basically for all
of us its all suddenly a reality after 3 years of waiting, and long periods
without any communications from CIC at all. It almost seems like it has sneaked
up on us.

As we will be looking to go though all the due processes after landing, I want
to make sure we can get these sorted and have a bit of a holiday as well, so
everyone remains motivated - as I am sure Canadian bureaucracy will every bit as
much fun to deal with as the UK version.   The real move will be in about a
year's time and I am hoping that one or both of us will have a job to go to.

At this point I am not even clear what needs to be done on landing. First job is
to get my sons passport updated as it has less than a year to run. That
shouldn't take more than about a month max. The letter from CIC says that the
visas will be valid for a year from the date of our medicals. If they mean the
original ones, that will give us to the end of next February.

We would like to go to NS, but I suspect Alberta or BC would be a more sensible
choice on the jobs front, so we are most likely to make our next visit to one of
them.

Any pointers about landing procedures  appreciated.

Thanks

Andrew

 Hi There

I makes no difference if you start life off in Canada between the cold winter
months!  Once you are here you have the rest of your life to deal with the
winter months.  There is no going back to the UK when it gets cold - you just
get on with your life.  You buy thicker and warmer coats, gloves, hats, scarfs
etc........

We moved to Calgary in October 2005 and have endured 4 winters over here and
each year they get easier and easier.

If anything I would say come in the winter, tough it out then you appreciate the
spring and summer more.

Hope everything works out for you in Canada - where are you thinking of landing?

Melanie

We just got the word today - all of us have passed passed the medicals and they
want our passports, so its all over at last!

I must admit it's a relief as I was staring to get a bity jumpy. It would have
been grim to wait three years and spend a fortune obn medicals only to get
bumped at the last minute.

Now we need to start thinking about our next recce visit. Hopefully we can do
this in the October school holiday, but we'll see. Might be better to wait until
the new year - anyone have any thoughts ? I'm not sure it'll be a god idea to
try and get organised in Canada as the cold weather begins.
