PURPOSE: As the world bathes in the glow of the Obama honeymoon, the 'War On
Terror' continues to be waged as the 'War Without End'. Meanwhile, the U.K now
has 9,000 troops deployed in Afghanistan, in a war which has been waged for
longer than World War II, at an intensity not seen since World War II. Military
analysts have described this war as unwinnable, yet U.S and U.K forces continue
to dig deeper into this quaqmire.
We cannot engage in wishful thinking that U.S foreign policy has fundamentally
changed. Obama's intentions may be good, but he is up against an entrenched
military industrial complex at home which shows no sign of ending the 'War
Without End'. DAAW continues to exist as an outlet for Direct Action groups and
individuals which have not made the same mistake as many other groups which have
wound up their activities.
PRIORITISE DAAW FOR EARLY NOTICE OF EVENTS: Due to our size and reach, relative
to much of the network, priortising DAAW as the place to post early notice of
Direct Action events means events can be redistributed to 100's of smaller
groups which DAAW subscribers are subscribed to. Sending events at short notice
elimates this potential gain.

PURPOSE: Bristol Stop The War Coalition was set up in Sept 2001 at the start of George Bush's 'War On Terror'. Since then, we have campaigned against the invasions and occupations of Iraq and Afghanistan.
With the support of the British government, these occupations have killed hundreds of thousands of people, including hundreds of British soldiers. Regardless of the outcome of elections in the USA, or here in Britain, the 'War On Terror' will likely continue to be waged as a 'War Without End'.
We
believe that the people of Iraq and Afghanistan have the right to determine their own future without interference from the USA or Britain. We are also opposed to the threats currently being made to attack Iran and the sanctions which are impoverishing the Iranian people.
Under the cloak of the 'War On Terror' our Government has attacked civil liberties at home, effectively criminalising legitimate protest, and created an atmosphere in which the Muslim community lives in fear.

Please
help! ...make a BIG
difference with one small action…
I’m sure many of
you will be
familiar with Peace News, having seen it sold at a whole host
of actions and
demonstrations over the years. For those unacquainted with the paper, Peace
News has been the voice of the British peace movement since its
inception in
1936, and has featured contributions from the likes of Aldous Huxley,
Bertrand Russell and Noam Chomsky.
PN back at
the newsstand
We’ve been
working hard to
increase the availability of Peace News and have managed to
secure a
distribution deal that means you can now get Peace News at your
newsagents.
At present it
is only
stocked in several hundred shops, but with your help we can grow Peace
News’
presence, and truly challenge the domination of the ever-compliant,
mainstream
press. Please visit your local newsagent and ask them to stock Peace
News!
We have
arrangements with
the big three national distributors (Menzies, Dawsons and Smiths) which
means
that there isn’t anywhere in Britain that isn’t able to stock the paper.
If your
newsagent is having
difficulty making the necessary arrangements please ask them to contact
David
Jones at Postscriptum on 020 852 67779, who will be able to sort
everything
out.
Please help
us!
Britain needs a
non-partisan
voice speaking out for peace, and with your help we can help secure Peace
News’
position as a newspaper of national importance and recognition.
Please ask your
newsagent to
stock Peace News today, and help redress the balance in the
British media.
Thank you for letting us join your Yahoo group. :-)
For those of you who haven't heard of Peace News before, we
are possibly the longest running anti-war paper in Britain -
established in 1936. Over those years we have maintained an impressive
record of featuring only the best in peace journalism, with the paper
printing contributions from the likes of Aldous Huxley and Bertrand
Russell, to Bruce Kent and Noam Chomsky.
Peace News is very keen to promote, and report on, direct action
being taken to bring about social justice; please keep us informed of
any activities your group are undertaking, by emailing

Dear Bob,
Good to hear from you. I hope we can meet up in the New Year.

PURPOSE: George Bush, when threatening Iran, talks of the spectre of 'World War III'. Until now, a US/Israeli military strike on Iran seemed a dangerous possibility. Now it has become an imminent reality. It is well past time to move beyond the comfort zone of A-B demonstrations (important as they are) and towards direct confrontation and opposition to our own illegal military states.

Dear All,
We are sorry, but for various reasons we have had to cancel the workshop planned for the 27th October. We hope to organise something in the New Year. A major issue is the dwindling band of active members so we (Graham and I) thought we would hold a 'special' meeting to discuss where we are and where we are going. This will be held at 7pm in the Mall pub -top of the Mall in Clifton Village (by the zebra crossing). http://www.britishp ubguide.com/ cgi-bin/pubsearc h.cgi?results: Bristol:169
Hope to see you there..

Subject: [bristolcaat] From Darryl at The Spark magazine
Hi,
I'm looking for interesting events taking place between December 07 and February 08 for the next issue of The Spark.
If you know of something happening over the three months that I may have missed, please feel free to send some information - and any illustrations - to me at this email address. If you're plugging any interesting arts, cinema, performance, open days, kids events, Christmas and New Year festivals or anything that you want to tell The Spark's 99,000 readers about, let me know!
Thanks,
Darryl

2. Stall on Saturday October 27th
The stall will be held from 1-5pm, starting on Castle Green, though we may explore leafleting down by the harbourside. A timetable was agreed with 2 people on throughout, but more people would be very useful especially for leafleting. If anyone is able to help out on Saturday this would be extremely helpful! Please email the group! Graham
to order more materials.
3. Forthcoming national CAAT events - Graham listed a number of upcoming events:
Tuesday 11th September: Protest at DSEi arms fare in London Docklands. See http://www.caat.org.uk/events/dsei2007.php. In connection with this, Graham mentioned a group trying to raise funds to buy a tank to take part in the protest. See http://www.pledgebank.com/tankFundBig.
Saturday 24th November: CAAT National Gathering, Camden Community College, Charrington St., London. See http://www.caat.org.uk/events/gathering2007.php/
For more details of CAAT activities go to http://www.caat.org.uk
4. Presentation - Sam gave a brief presentation on the current state of the global arms industry, followed by a discussion.
A reminder that the next meeting of Bristol CAAT will be on this coming Thursday, at 7.30pm at 10 Priory Road, Clifton. As part of the meeting, Sam will give a presentation on current developments in the European arms industry. Although he might be slightly late having just got back from Stockholm!
We are also looking to hold a stall at Castle Park on Saturday 28th July. Anyone able to help out would be most welcome!

Hmm, well given that the areas of research include "advanced secure communications" there may well be a military link. Note that although the project is linked to Airbus Filton, the joint venture is with EADS, not specifically the Airbus subsidiary. So potentially it could be stuff related to the whole of EADS' stuff.
Airbus are building military transport planes for EU armed forces. At present I'm not aware of any exports further afield (although they may come), and in terms of the domestic European markets it's one of the less malign areas of procurement, so I wouldn't consider Airbbus alone to be a priority. But if it's going beyond Airbus into more general EADS stuff, there could well be some stuff of concern.
