Brisbane UnSchoolers (BUS) is a group of Brisbane based families that meet every Tuesday to share our passions and learn from each other in practicing respectful non-coercive communication; radical unschooling; unschooling & deschooling and attachment and natural parenting.
If you are interested please contact one of the group contacts listed below and come along to one of our weekly get togethers.
****If, after meeting the group a few times, you would like to continue coming, you are then welcome to apply to join this egroup which is a link up for those families attending. *****
The majority of the group would appreciate that the egroup be restricted to people that they have met 'in person' as sometimes personal situations are discussed.
Unschooling is a form of homeschooling that follows principles of natural learning. It puts the child in control of her/his own education. As parents we see our roles as facilitators and fellow travelers in our children's exploration of life and the world around them. We trust and assist our children to explore any area or topic that draws their curiosity.
We meet weekly and our activities vary. At times we will organise activities to expose the children and ourselves to new ideas or projects. Such activities will generally be quite unstructured and always see play as a valuable outcome in itself. Whatever we do the foundation in our approach is about exploration and following interest rather than attachment to any particular "outcome".
We are not exclusive – BUS members participate in other homeschool groups as individuals, and as a group we welcome and encourage the development of an active, supportive homeschooling community in all of its shapes and styles.
If you think BUS can assist you in your journey of parenting and unschooling, we encourage you to come along. For more information or to find out about our calendar please contact either Maree mareesorganics@optusnet.com.au or Karen kldickson@gmail.com
