Brighstone Holiday Centre is a remarkable survivor. It was one of the countries first holiday camps opening in 1932 and was in regular use and remained largely unchanged right through to 1995 when a huge fire ripped through the main building and destroyed the Ballroom, Dining Room and Bar complex.
After a period of laying empty and overgrown it was sold and was later re-opened offering self catering and bed and breakfast. A campsite with electric hook up had been built on the site of the former Ballroom.
With exception of two later chalet lines, the camp's accomodation areas are unchanged since opening and although modified internally still present the image of a classic pre-war holiday camp.
Set in the beautiful unspoilt countryside of the Isle of Wight's southwest coast it represents the "good ol' days" when you could sit back in your stripey deckchair out side your "shed" and watch the world go by.
