Blue Ridge & Alleghany Rail Ops is the name adopted by the Operations Group of Railroader Modelers in Virginia, West Virginia and surrounding areas. This group is dedicated to the realistic operations of model railroads as well as fellowship between rail fans and model railroaders. Most of us either model areas within and or live within the area of the Blue Ridge & Alleghany Mountains, hence the name of the group.

The purpose of Blue Ridge & Alleghany Rail Ops is to coordinate potential operators with operating sessions on many of the fine railroad models in this area. This will be accomplished by Model RR host / owners making post to this group to make potential operators aware upcoming operating sessions. This is by no means an "OK" that ones name is automatically added to the "crew call list" for a particular op session, as each layout host is likely to handle crew signup slightly different and each has different number of open postions. Each host will need to be contacted to find the availability of positions for their session.

In doing this, we hope to share the wonderful hobby of model railroading with others, fill the op sessions with the necessary people to operate, learn about operations of railroads, and all the while having some great fun “moving” freight and passengers on our railroad models.

Currently, our group consists of several operating railroads and many more railroads under construction in scales ranging from N Scale to Live Steam. Most in this group are “crew members” / "operators" willing help to fill out the crew call boards during these model RR operating sessions. Currently membership is by invitation only. Using Yahoo Group membership type terminology, operators are considered "members" and Host/owners are "moderators".
