Hello,

I have a friend who's looking to transfer about three reels of 8mm to
digital for a film project.

Does anyone know how, or where I can get that done?

Thanks,

-Q

THANK YOU>> GOD & CHRIST JESUS FOR HELPING ME STOPPING MY SINNINGNESS!

I'VE FOUND THE LIGHT WITH MY CAPS LOCK KEY,

WHENEVER I ACCIDENTALLY HIT THE CAPS LOCK KEY IN THE PAST, A LITTLE LIGHT WOULD COME ON. LITTLE DID I KNOW THAT LIGHT WAS JESUS TRYING TO GET AT MY BRAIN. BUT ONCE I LET HIM IN AND BURNED ALL MY BOOKS AND CONDOMS, I REALIZED THAT THE ONLY CHRISTIAN WAY TO WRITE IS IN ALL CAPS. OTHERWISE THE HOLY SPIRIT WON'T GET ACROSS TO ANYBODY!

THIS IS A FANTASTIC BOOK BUT MY BOOKSHELF IS A BIT SPARSE AS AFTER READING IT I BURNED ALL MY OTHER BOOKS, INCLUDING THE BIBLES AS THEY WERE WRITTEN PARTIALLY IN LOWERCASE LETTERS, OR AS I LIKE TO CALL THEM, THE DEVIL'S RUNES. CAN ANYONE RECOMMEND ME A GOOD ALLCAPS BIBLE?

Xmas Party Sat. Dec. 12th

The Home for Wayward Boyz is pleased to announce that we are actually putting on our gala event of the season, the occasionally annual, but third in a row COOOOOOKIE FESTIVAL of Lights! We are also pleased to admit that we are able, through extreme and superhuman effort, to rise above the slothful nature that our Creator imbued and endowed us with, to make this all happen. Our taxing efforts to afford you the finest in Holiday entertainment will not just be setting up a tree and flipping a switch on some lights, but it won't be far off. In fact we will be slaving over a hot oven, the better to keep the house warm, making morsels of delight from such fancy sources as the Fanny Farmer Cookbook, among other equally as gastronomically elite texts.

As always we will be providing a barrel of the CBC's finest, a tree, or trees, mostly decorated this year, our fine selves dressed in our Holiday frippery and finery, glorious cheese and a starter set of 20-dozen or so cookies of our own devise and cookie-facture.

You can bring along your fine self and others, cookies, or really goodies of any fashion or flavor to share, and any other libations of a cheery and festive sort. There will be a sound system for any of you DJs out there and we have on hand 2 projectors for you of the Vs of J persuasion. All of which shall certainly be most informal, unless you wish to organize. Anyone wishing to help with decorating or etc., please do not hesitate to get in touch with me, Elves are always loved and necessary.

Wait! What? Is that Cookies and Beer you say? why tell me more. From 8:00PM on towards the wee hours at a new and larger venue, with space to dance, at the shop of that inter-Galactic trader/smuggler, Original Blake, 20 Rugg Rd., Allston, where the Boston Burning Trucks engorge and disgorge during their their own Annual Feeding Frenzy.  617.783.3020

I know that you all have many potential Holiday obligations so if'n we do not see you in Brighton, then perhaps we shall see you at some other Holiday-themed Soiree.

Cheers and please do not forward to other rabbly lists, etc.,

Kids, the word of the day is “diagrid.”  We could have been so much snootier positioning le cornichon as a diagrid structure, rather than merely non-geodesic.  You thought that I had half a clue what I was doing, and I didn’t even know the name of the design template.  Perfect.

Anyhow, lots of diagrid-themed inspiration on the Mathematica blog.  Planning on building a new structure as part of your art project for Metropolis?  Want the structure to coordinate with the dome?  Dude, consider a diagrid.

http://blog.wolfram.com/2009/09/11/twisted-architecture/

And if you have a dome appendage in your fancy for 2010, don’t forget that the models and documentation of the 2009 dome are here:

That lesser gherkin was the one that Eric discovered.  It was 30’ tall, like ours, but obviously smaller in base diameter.  It was constructed from 1” conduit (in both tension and compression) and covered with panels of (I think) masonite attached with U straps.  Notice that the compression beams get shorter towards the top, unlike the gherkin and the cornichon.  It had two stories inside made of plywood and lots of conduit where the camp lived plus an observation deck, with ladders joining the floors.  They built a hoist to raise it top-down.

The engineer (“Walt,” perhaps) is an EE who studied math in college and designed it by writing custom BASIC (!) code.  The camp consisted of him, his wife, and their teenage son and daughter and two of the children’s friends / SOs.  Hailing from LA, it was the family’s second burn.

Dear Bill in San Francisco,

Welcome to our community of New England Burners. I hope you find us to
be as hearty and tasty as your dietary restrictions allow. We
certainly go well with beer.

As for the Cambridge Brewing Company, you can visit them online at:
www.cambrew.com
or in person to check it out yourself at 1 Kendall Square #100,
Cambridge, MA.

Answering the following: "How do you and your service dog usually fare
in busy pub/restaurant settings?" should go a long way towards
answering your specific question about the CBC.

It would certainly be possible to get you a seat at the bar, or a
nearby table, such that you can be right in the middle of the Burner
action and your service dog could curl up at your feet. I'm assuming
this is helpful.

You can also try calling the CBC directly: 617-494-1994.

I'm sure that any of us would do whatever it takes to help you and
your dog enjoy our fine company.

All The Best,

-Q

P.S. I dunno what's up with local Burners for Christmas. I'm going to
be with my family in the Pioneer Valley. :-)

What's this? And after-party for a party that ends at 6AM?!
Madness you say?

I say Nay!

I invite you all to watch the sunrise with me on our impromptu Party Train!

Although I am decidedly unfamiliar with the Saturday 6:35 commuter rail train from Providence to Boston, I am harboring a guess that those among us within which the infection has mutated will be able to secure a train car to ourselves for the ride home.

While everyone else is forced into sobriety to squeeze into a personal internal-combustion vehicle or the floor of a cramped hotel room, revel in your ability to stand, dance and interact on a smoothly rolling train car!

Pack up some portable speakers, an iPod and some high-energy tunes to help us roll on home to Boston.

Resist the inoculation! Spread the infection!

Following up:

Trains & buses are each out of two different (if nearby) locations:

Amtrak & MBCR (T) trains will be at the modernist train station at 100 Gaspee St., Providence.

Peter Pan, Greyhound, and local RIPTA buses will be out of Kennedy Plaza just in front of downtown.

These two areas are a just short walk from one another if you cross City Hall Park & WaterPlace Park.

Therapy is located right near the heart of an industrial neighborhood called: "Olneyville." The eponymous "Olneyville Square" is the big interesction of Dike St. (our destination) with Broadway, Westminster, Harris Ave, Hartford Ave, Plainfield St, Manton Ave, and Valley St. (And, yes, they all intersect -- this is New England.)

Lots of RIPTA buses go through Olneyville from Kennedy Plaza, including, but not limited to:
Buses: 9, 10, 17, 19, 27, 30.

Plus an intrepid group could easily walk the 1.5 miles from Downcity to Olneyville (7 Dike St.) in a half-hour.

You may not need those cabs after all...

***Alert***

In an effort to spread our Pandemic far and wide, patients are encouraged to take Public Transportation.

I have compiled four sets of schedules: MBCR (T), Amtrak, Peter Pan Bus, and Greyhound Lines. I hope they have all arrived virus-free in your machine with formatting intact.

Consider that the first MBCR (T) train on Saturday morning could be rife with illin-ness: PVD 6:35 am --> BOS 7:43 pm.

Note: there is a 3:15 a.m. Greyhound Lines departure from Kennedy Plaza, Providence, RI back to Boston.

I have also appended a list of taxicab companies in Providence.

I hope you find this information reliable and useful. That said, don't rely on me, I've been trained as a fake doctor, not a real travel agent.

You may also find useful info at:

I'm happy to help with your production, have you considered the Peabody Essex Museum, or the Natural History Museum at Harvard?

You could also try any Hunting or Gun clubs.

Or Doug Ruuska with the explorer's club.

I did just speak with Joe over at Roach's Sporting Goods in Porter Sq. He said that full-body is rare, expensive, and easily damaged.

Good luck.

P.S. MIT might have something for historical lab equipment. Try their curator of museums.

Heya Gang,
So Josh Kastorf,  who you might know from Crypto Candida goodness, is shooting a film this weekend set in Victorian Boston in which I play an eccentric wealthy widowed alchemist and we are still looking for some props. Ideally we really need some full bodied taxidermied animals which are REALLY hard to find. In addition to that, anything looking chemistry style (especially antiquated) would be highly appreciated.  Also if you might be interested in being an extra in the film on this Sunday 11/22 or a production assistant, we can't pay you but we can get ya liquored up on absinthe, feed you and it will be a fun time with some good peeps!  Thanks for any help or leads.

Hey all,

We posted a couple months ago about needing a new roomie/friend for our quirky artsy burner friendly home near Central.

We still need somebody, and time is short!  We thought a re-post couldn't hurt.

The skinny:
$525 a month + utils.
4 bedroom, 1 bath + 2 half-baths.
furnished basement + 3 floors
Awesome roommates
House is super decorated, always ready for more!

Move in between now and December first!

For full details see our ad on craig's list:

Now, back to your regularly scheduled nonsense.

Anyone out there have any old telescopes that they might be willing to part with? Old cheap tasco scopes are just fine, I find them in the trash every once in a while, but I am looking for 30 or more of them for a Playa Observatory Art Project.

Cheers,

D

Anyone see the Leonid Meteor Shower early this morning?

Dust & Illusion was a pretty illuminating look at the formative history and influences oon the Burning Man that we know and love today. Hopefully Olivier will swing back again this wa sometime soon to give all of you who did not get to see it an opportunity to do so.

Damn but the food was tasty at the CBC Brewer's Dinner on Sat. Your next chance to get in on this gastronomic delight will be coming up in March.

Pints, 7:30PM 'til late at the Cambridge Brewing Co.

Hi,

If you weren't aware, our current NH/VT BM Regional Contact is moving
and there are three people currently under consideration to replace
her.

I know one, Julie Vogt aka Uberblonde, but do not know the other two:

Alexander Hirka
Bernie Lucey

I was wondering if anyone knew them or perhaps they are on this list?
I can't seem to find their names anywhere when I search back through
my emails. Maybe they have always used their playa name...?

Yes, I realize this is a Boston list but we don't have an active NH
list. This is where all the email traffic is.

Thanks,

Ken

PS:  A reminder... there is NO fire performance allowed at the venue (but glowy is more than welcome).

Sorry to be the bearer or reminder of bad news...

hi Clara,

Looking forward to seeing you soon, I don't feel the need to perform specifically but wanted to know if there is ample space for the hooping and such.

Ho-Ho-Ho,

I know, I know, its really too early to hear Xmas carols and all of that, but in the spirit of a more artful giving of gifts this year I have put together the following, by no means comprehensive, handy guide to Holiday Art Sales around Boston. If your favorite sale is not listed, drop me a line with the particulars and I will send out a supplement.

Happy Holidays 2B
