Description

What's a booktalk? It's the most effective way around to convince people to read! It's an dramatic introduction to a book, a commercial that frequently ends with, "To find out what happens, read…." It's not a summary or a book review, but a glimpse a character, a scene, or a plot line that is designed to persuade the listener or reader to read the book being presented. Librarians and teachers have used this technique for years to convince kids, and even adults, to read for pleasure.

Want to increase the number of books your students or customers read?
Want to increase their reading skills?
Want them to discover the joy of reading for fun?
Booktalking is the way to do it! And this group can help you either get started or improve your ability to convince anyone to read a book!

In this group, you can:
Learn more about booktalking.
Improve your writing and presenting skills.
Find ideas to jazz up your booktalking presentations.
Meet someone (actually, lots of them!) to talk to with about booktalks and booktalking.
Join teachers and librarians from all over the country, and exchange booktalks, bibliographies, tips, problems, questions, ideas, and even tall tales of wonderful or awful experiences.
Find a support group of fellow reading addicts, who are always looking for new folks to hook on reading!

Both experienced and novice booktalkers are welcome to lurk or to contribute, but only members may post messages.

Moderated by Dr. Joni Richards Bodart, author, university professor, consultant, and Booktalker Extraordinare!
