Love to have some of you join us in this really exciting Workshop.

THE RUSTY BARN
SANTA BARBARA CALIFORNIA
WWW.therustybarn.com

Kumi Korf, Book Artist and Printmaker

Hidden Books
Sculptural Play
And
Surprising Spaces
_____________
and
New Twist to an
Accordion Book

These two projects will make up a three day, intensive workshop schedule.
Friday - Sunday
May 4 – 6, 2012
9:30 – 4:30

Price: $350.00 plus $30 materials fee
(Kumi provides all the "structural" materials, that need to be cut to precision
measurements. So we don't spend valuable time doing the cutting).

Deposit: $100.00 non-refundable, by March 15.
Mary Ince: 508 685-9742
4650 Vintage Ranch Ln, Santa Barbara, CA, 93110

Hidden Boxes will consist of connecting eight small blocks in a circular
formation lying flat to create a sculptural book complete with manipulated up
and down, in and out hidden elements. Each block will contain a space within it
for a small booklet with text that can be withdrawn and read.

New Twist to an Accordion Book will explore new uses for prints or other sturdy
paper examples in a book that will be bound into the folds of waxed-paper
concertina pleats. We will be using stainless steel wire and dental floss for
binding pages that will freely move back and forth.

  See Flyer on www.therustybarn.com website.

Pinhole photography is a really fascinating technique, and fairly inexpensive.

By the way, was there anyone interested in the three day, intensive workshop on
book arts that Kumi Korf is leading at The Rusty Barn here in Santa Barbara? I
posted it a while ago. See attached.

The online course I have been taking, the Hero's Art Journey, is coming to a
close but I like it so much I am going to sign up again. The teacher, Dr. Mira
Reisberg, is great. She has brilliant references for us to look at and the
interviews with artists are wonderful. The commitment is to do one picture a
week and to spend some time commenting on others pieces. The structure was good
for me: even thought I was very busy I found having homework made me concentrate
on getting work done for the class.

The next class begins in June. Here is her website:

For anyone going as far north in California as Fort Bragg, check out this
wonderful place:

http://www.lostcoastculturemachine.org/

They have papermaking classes, exhibitions, book arts, and studio space.
Hopefully they will have residencies in the future.
