Dear blues loving DJ's,
CD Baby delivered Beautiful Bobby Blackmon's CD "I'm Dialin 911" to
my mailbox this weekend. What a joy to hear such great stuff. Bobby
wrote all the tunes on the CD and sings his heart off. Did I forget
to mention the tasty guitar work?
If you don't know Bobby, he's in Central Florida via the West Coast
and East Texas.
This may seem kinda goofy but if you were an early Robert Cray fan,
Beautiful Bobby Blackmon is what Robert probably should have grown
into. I've read the comparisons of Bobby to B.B. King, but Bobby's
recording reminds me more of Freddie King. Its hard to pick a
favorite tune; "I've Got Blues On My Mind" and "Give Me The Blues Any
Old Time" remind me of Freddie King from the Burgler/Texas Cannonball
era; Robert Cray could cover "We Don't Tell Motel", but I don't think
he could do it better than Bobby; Beautiful Bobby gives Curtis
Salgado a run for the money on "Trying To Forget About Yesterday";
and the title tune "I'm Dialin' 911" is just too cool. Then Bobby
throws in "Holdin On to Sweet Memories" that is smoother than
anything Lou Rawls, Luther Vandros or James Ingram has done.
Bobby writes about his East Texas background and growing up in the
liner notes. I got a kick out of how his grandma told him that the
guitar is a "starvation box"…boy if that ain't the unadulterated
truth! Although, I'd rather see Bobby sell boatloads of CD's and
prove grandma wrong.
Anyway, check out Beautiful Bobby Blackmon's performance schedule on
his CD Baby website

I promise it is well worth the money.
