Sorry for the cross post ladies but I thought you might want to be aware of this.  I’m not sure if this is only happening in the USA or not.

Google has implemented a new feature which enables you to type a telephone number into the search bar and hit enter and you will be given the person's name and address. If you then hit MapQuest, you will get a map to the person's house. Everyone should be aware of this! It's a nationwide reverse telephone book. If a child gives out his/her phone number, someone can now look it up to find out where he/she lives. The safety issues are obvious, and alarming.

I have tried this and it’s not a hoax.  Imagine my surprise when my phone number pulled up my address, then gave a map link that actually showed, in full color, the front of my house.

In order to test whether your phone number is mapped, go to: www.google.com and enter your phone number in the ‘search’ box.  If a screen opens with a link titled “Phonebook”, Google has your information.

If you want your phone number removed or blocked, click on the ‘Phonebook’ link. That will take you to a screen and a link where you can “Request to have your name removed…”

Also note that removing from Google can take 24-28 hours and DOES NOT automatically remove your information from other providers (i.e., SmartPages.com, WhitePages.com, etc.)
