Sorry for the cross post ladies but I thought you might want to be
aware of this.I’m not sure
if this is only happening in the USA or not.
Google has implemented a new feature which enables you to type a
telephone number into the search bar and hit enter and you will be given the person's
name and address. If you then hit MapQuest, you will get a map to the person's
house. Everyone should be aware of this! It's a nationwide reverse telephone
book. If a child gives out his/her phone number, someone can now look it up to
find out where he/she lives. The safety issues are obvious, and alarming.
I have tried this and it’s not a hoax. Imagine my surprise when my phone number
pulled up my address, then gave a map link that actually showed, in full color,
the front of my house.
In order to test whether your phone number is mapped, go to: www.google.com and enter your phone number in
the ‘search’ box.If a
screen opens with a link titled “Phonebook”, Google has your
information.
If you want your phone number removed or blocked, click on the ‘Phonebook’
link. That will take you to a screen and a link where you can “Request to
have your name removed…”
Also note that removing from Google can take 24-28 hours and DOES NOT
automatically remove your information from other
providers (i.e., SmartPages.com, WhitePages.com, etc.)

Unfortunately the neither the html or the javascript is working in
typepad typelists, which is why I posted here.
Anyone actually using it in a typepad typelist (not the body or any
other piece) that can e-mail me off list so I can ask you questions?

One of the issues I was having was that the ringcode seems to sit off
the the right.
So, for those of you who have moved and are trying to post the
ringcode, look for the html version.
View "my memberships" (a tab at the bottom) and then click on your site
title. This will bring up a second screen where you can "get navigation
code" in the left hand sidebar. Way at the bottom is "For members who
wish to install the HTML version of the navigation bar, click here.".
This works MUCH better in blogs - it doesn't have all the weird spacing
around it. USE THAT CODE!
The only bad part is it doesn't automatically update, but I"ll send out
emails when it does!
Mary-Frances
She suggested I just post the update for the Bloggers Who Embellish page here:
Bloggers Who Embellish Webring! (and not embellishing their speech, just their art!)
A WebRing Community is a group of similar sites that are linked to another by a simple navigation bar with the two-fold purpose of creating community and sharing online traffic.
To become a member of this community, and/or explore WebRing further please use this link provided. We look forward to having you join us!
We have moved!
After years of dealing with Ringsurf and their lack of customer service along with tools to help make this a better ring, we have decided to move the ring over to Webring.com. Sadly that ring was passed on to someone who was not a known member of the ring. So if you are a member of the Ringsurf ring, you are not part of our original group.
Who we are:
Welcome to folks who bead, quilt, are fiber artists, dollmakers, historical embroiderers and costumers, and embellish all sorts of cool stuff! I'm eager to see who joins!
Rules:
Any blogs that don't update for 3 months will be deleted. Ring members are welcome to email me if a blog hasn't been updated so I can delete them. If you start posting regularly again, please feel free to apply to the ring again!
You must paste the ring code on your blog. I check all of the blogs independently, so I know if the code is on there. I do not know if you've deleted it off if you're not interested tho! So, please, if you want to be removed from the ring (or need to make any changes and can't access your account), email me.
I only approve blogs in the queue on the weekend - if you've been in there for a bit, don't worry! I'm only one person!
I'm hoping we can add special Embellished focused blogging days soon, but I need to clean up the list first! If you have any ideas, feel free to contact me!
New to webrings??
What is a WebRing: A WebRing is an Internet service and concept which links together a group of sites that have the same theme. In each WebRing, member Web sites have banded together to form their sites into linked circles. Their purpose: to allow more visitors to reach them quickly and easily. Each site is linked to another by a simple navigation bar. Generally, users can navigate forwards, backwards, skipping a certain number of sites, visit sites randomly, or see a list of all the sites on the ring.
The really great thing is we have a new forum over there! Come visit us here!
Or you can visit us at our Yahoo group (although I hope to phase this out once the other forum takes off)
Now the really great news is I’m
also opening the forum over there. So assuming all goes well, this will be a
webring AND forum. Details to come.
Just in case you don’t know, the old
webring over at Ringsurf is no longer owned by our ring. Someone jumped in and
took it when we were trying to change ownership. So I’m in process of
making this one MUCH more attractive so we can lure everyone here! J Our original idea was to
move the ring here anyway! (big grin).

This was brought to my attention and I clicked the link below to do
the OPT OUT. It might be wise for you all to do the same.
If you belong to ANY Yahoo Groups - be aware that Yahoo is now using
"Web Beacons" to track every Yahoo Group user. It's similar to
cookies, but allows Yahoo to record every website and every group you
visit, even when you're not connected to Yahoo. Look at their updated
privacy statement at http://info.yahoo.com/privacy/us/yahoo/details.html
About half-way down the page, in the section on *cookies*, you will
see a link that says *WEB BEACONS*.
Click on the phrase "Web Beacons." On the page that opens, on the
left
find a box entitled "Opt-Out."
In that section find "opt-out of interest-matched advertising" link
that will let you "opt-out" of their snooping. Click it and then
click
the opt-out button on the next page.
Note that Yahoo's invasion of your privacy - and your ability to
opt-out of it - is not user-specific. It is MACHINE specific. That
means you will have to opt-out on every computer (and browser) you use.
Please forward this to your other groups. You might complain, too, but
I'm not sure if anyone is listening. I remember when they signed all
users up to get spam and we had to opt out of that a few years ago.

Wonderful news. I tried a while back to join and couldn't get the first ring code stuff to work. Can't wait till you are up and running because everyone's work was just beautiful.
Ugh! Here I am finally updating how this is going - badly! The old ring
has transfered to someone we (meaning Regina and I) don't know. The
only way to tranfer the ring on Ringsurf is to put it up for adoption
and despite several emails, they awarded it to someone else! (this is
why we're moving).
I've almost got the new ring up and running but the ringcode is a drama
(it's a weird and ugly size) and so I need to set aside a few hours
(maybe this weekend) to work it all out.
So, slowly we're moving, but it's a drama!
Thanks for everyone's patience!
Mary-Frances
