Pardon me, but......<br><br>If you'll refer to
message 76 by CIB66, it should be evident that one must
know which WW II 28th Infantry (regiment or division)
we're talking about, if one is to do any research.
<br><br>Aside from making the distinction between the two
organizations, there was only a historical point that the 28th
Regiment was assigned to the 8th Division during WW
II.<br><br>I do agree that a Black Lion is a Black Lion
without regard to divisional assignment. But, when you're
trying to do some historical research, there is a big
difference between the 28th US Infantry Regiment, and the
28th Infantry Division. <br><br>For future reference,
what are we suppose to talk about on this board?
Bros, don't get me wrong on this, but the
talk<br>going on about the 28th Infantry and the 28th
Division,<br>has nothing to do with this room. Correct me if I
am<br>wrong. The Club Name is "BlackLions 28th Infantry".
The<br>term BlackLions did not come into use until
around<br>July 3-5 of 1917. Coming from "Lions of<br>Cantigny"
in France. It has been BlackLions ever since
and<br>this room is called BlackLions 28th Infanty.
Therefore<br>any Division the 28th Infantry served under is
really<br>immaterial.
I wish it were so.........<br><br>Had I been in
charge, the 28th Infantry Regiment would have remained
with the 1st Division during WW II. Unfortunately, it
was assigned to the 8th Infantry Division. All the
Black Lions were wearing 8th ID patches when they went
ashore in July, 1944. <br><br>I hope it is
so.......<br><br>There's a movement afoot by the Society of the First
Infantry Division to return the 28th's colors to the Big
Red One where it belongs. According to the response
from the Center for Military History to the Board of
Directors of the Society, this can only be done when (and
if) another infantry battalion is authorized. The
Army has a reorganization in the mill that may do the
job. Current infantry battalions in the 1st are the
2/2, 1/16, 1/18 and 1/26.<br><br>Have a good Black
Lion day....
Reference the deleted message. One nice thing
about getting you club messages via e-mail, I have it
in my e-mail and here it is:<br><br>"Good point Bob.
The 28th Infantry Division is a old Pennsylvania
National Guard Unit that was activated and became the 28th
Division in WWII. My Dad was in the 28th Infantry Division
in WWII. It is not to be confused with the 28th
Infantry Regiment, which was part of the First Division in
WWII. Of course it was part of the Big Red One in
Vietnam as we are all aware. See at the reunion, don't
miss it!!! Larry"<br><br>That was the deleted
message.<br><br>Tony
Blacklions1967,<br><br>I'm very sorry but I
deleted your message by mistake. Being a co-founder, next
to rely box is the delete box. Could you please post
it again please? We don't sensor messages in this
club.<br><br>My reply was that I don't think that 28th Inf Reg
was a part of 1st Inf Div. I also thought that they
were part of BRO. What information I found was they
they were part of 8th Inf Div from the start. 28th Inf
Reg did land on Omaha Beach but it was on 4 Jul 1944.
Below is the 8th Inf Div site with the history of 28th
Inf Reg page.<br><br>Again, sorry about the
delete.<br><br><a href=http://www.militaria.com/8th/28history1.html

Sir<br><br>Tony
First step.......making sure you are both talking
about the same thing. Was he with the 28th Infantry
Division, or was he with the 28th Infantry Regiment (8th
Division)? To many vets, the 28th, is the 28th, is the
28th....... We know that's not true. There are those who were
with the 28th, and then there are "BlackLions".
<br><br>If its the former, the 28th Division has a web
site.<br><br>Good luck in your search......
Bros, Can anybody give me ideas on how I can look
up to see if an older veteran served with the 28th
Inf during WW2??? I know this fellow is a vet and he
claims to have served with the 28th but he's a little
shakey in the memory department (arn't we all).
Thanks<br><br>Lowell -- cib66

in the Battle of the Bulge and also saw combat in
France. This kid don`t need a CIB, this family aready has

the reunion. Larry
Larry,<br><br>You must be very proud papa now. Not only he is in the army, but
he is receiving training from the unit that his father was in combat
with.<br><br>Congratulations Larry<br><br>Tony
I got an E-Mail from Blacklion 1967 stating that
he has problems posting messages here. I'll answer
it here so others with similar problems will have an
idea of various problems. <br><br>In various clubs
that I belong to, it seems that for the last couple of
weeks, all clubs had problems with Yahoo.<br><br>My
problem with Yahoo in this club was similar to Blacklion
1967. I was able to post messages in this club, but
when I tried to enter the chat room, I got a "You have
reached a members only area", but on top of the page it
showed I was a member. I tried to delete myself from the
club and re-join to see if that would take care of the
problem. When I got my list of the clubs to delete, our
club was not on the list to be deleted and at the same
time on the my clubs page it showed our club on my
list. I contacted Yahoo a couple of times but did get
no response. I finally changed my name and joined
our club under the new name. I'm listed twice in our
club "Black_Lev28" and the old name Pekhota_28. I
don't know how to delete Pekhota_28, so I gave
up.<br><br>I see that Blacklion 1967 did get a message posted.
Hope no more problems.<br><br>Tony
Sir,<br><br>Great picture. It's a keepsake. Made
a copy of my printer. It came out good and I think
it will be better once I get photo paper for my
copier. One problem I have, is that I can't get the whole
picture printed. My picture gets cut off at the "O".
<br><br>Thanks for thinking about us.<br><br>Black Lions

Just wanted to let everyone know that my son is
in the picture LTC Hawes posted of the 2000 Black
Lions. He is in the L of lions, and in A Company 2/28th
for Basic Training. It tops the pictures I took in
Lai Khe and around the Nam. Black Lions, Larry

Sir,<br><br>What a great picture, and thank you
for sharing it. If that doesn't get us stirred up for
the reunion, nothing will. As I look at it I can't
help but think all your NCOs were silently screaming
that age old advice-Don't bunch up! Don't bunch up!
One round would get you all.<br><br>Black Lions

Please check out the Centennial Photo on the
Photo Album that the 1st and 2d Bn, 28th Infantry took
on 7 April 01. The picture includes 2000+ Black Lion
soldiers from both battalions of the regiment. On behalf
of both battalions we cant wait to see all of you in
May. Black Lions Sir!<br>LTC Sam Hawes, Commander,
2-28 Infantry
No particular input Tony, just wanted to let you
know that I agree with the thought about the hours and
can go along with ANY change that seems appropriate
and a little kinder to BROs in the Eastern time zone.
Dick
Thanks for the invite to the Black Lion Club! At
2-28 we are developing a history wall for our Hq's and
the upcoming reunion. If you have a deserving picture
please send it and we'll get it up. I'd appreciate it if
you could send it already framed since we have no
money for this. Also try to identify the individuals,
company, and timeframe as well. We also will take any
memorabilia as well. It must come with a letter identifying
the history/background behind the object so we can
display it appropriately. We have a great Centenniel
Celebration planned and I look forward to meeting all of you.
If your ever in the area please just stop by and
we'll give you the grand tour. Consider 2-28 and Fort
Jackson your Black Lion Home. Thanks and Black Lions. LTC
Sam Hawes, Commander 2-28 Infantry.
Today is Thursday. Chat night right here in our
own club. Black Lions always have interesting
subjects. Same time 2100hrs (9pm) eastern
time.<br><br>Don't you have something to say to me? Hint.
Hint.<br><br>Once upon a time long long ago before WWII started in
a far far away land called Soviet Union,

Sir<br><br>Tony
This is a little comical period I thought about.
This might bring memories back to those that were at
Ft Riley before we shipped out to Vietnam and to
others, this is what one of the things we did getting
ready to ship out.<br><br>In 1965, the underwear in the
army was white. White T-shirt, white boxer shorts, and
white towels. We got the word that we are to dye our
whites green. Being good soldiers, we all went and
purchased our dye and started dyeing our whites. There were
approximately 150 men in our company. The results were 150
different shades of green. Light green, dark green, very
dark green, but not one that we could call OD. I have
to smile when I think about that.<br><br>Ofcourse,
once we got to Vietnam, our first lesson learned was
to get rid of our underwear.<br><br>Hope some of you
liked this piece of history. Anyone else care to share
your moments.<br><br>Black Lions Sir<br><br>Tony
As Co-Founder We of the Lions Den would
appreciate it very much if all members would at least give
name and unit and date served. Many of our brothers
are looking to locate lost friends and comrades. <br>
I would like to take this time to Welcome those
members that have joined our club.<br> To identify myself
to those of you , who may not know me.<br> I was at
Ft Riley in the 2/28th from April 1964 until Jan
1966. I went to Viet Nam with Hq. Co Recon. We were
given an all expense paid cruise on board the Sultan
with senic stopover at Subic Bay in the Phillipines.
<br> WELCOME HOME my Brothers
I'm happy to see that our membership is growing.
This is going to be a good Black Lion Club. What else
can you expect but the best from Black Lion
Members.<br><br>Hope you all are having better weather than here in St
Paul MN. Thursday morning after coffee, shovel snow.
Thursday afternoon watch snow falling down. Friday morning
after coffee, shovel snow. Right now the sun is out but
it's 5 degrees below zero. <br><br>I remember in
winter 57-58 at Ft Riley (I was on 6 month active duty
with National Guard) it was cold and we were on police
call. I had the flaps on my pile cap down, the others
had their flaps up and tied down. To this day I
remember MSG Bell saying "PVT Nesterowitsch, get those ear
flaps up. They are not there to keep your ears warm,
they are there as an ornament". LOL. Still funny today
when I think about it. (I went active duty Oct
1961)<br><br>Black Lions Sir<br><br>Tony
