What is BirdYak?

BirdYak is a mailing list for topics relating to birding in Yakima County, Washington. Anyone may subscribe to this free service, both beginning and advanced birders.

While this list is currently (and intended to stay) unmoderated and open to anyone, the hope is that the postings will focus on issues of sightings and identification related to Yakima County rather than issues that are more suitable to Tweeters or BirdChat. Discussion of purely conservation issues are discouraged, as there are other forums for this. Advertising of a commercial nature is prohibited.

If you are not familiar with mailing lists, this is a mechanism by which people can register interest in a particular topic. Subscribers to the list then get a copy of each posting to the mailing list, eliminating the need for each person to keep a copy of the recipients' addresses for the mailing list.

How do I subscribe/unsubscribe, etc..?

Click on the words "Join this group" at the the upper right corner of this page and follow the directions. Set your preferences there.

How do I post messages?

Send an email to birdyak@yahoogroups.com. That's it. No need to remember everyone's email address or create your own mailing list. All other members will receive your e-mail. They will also be able to respond to it, either directly to you or to the list.

Members are expected to generate genial and respectful posts to BirdYak, refraining from flames and ugly comments. Continued failure to follow this simple appeal will result in removal from the list.
