I live near Lyon in France (so excuse my poor english...)
I'm not really a stamps collector (I'm more interessed by birds than stamps) so I'm not looking for rarities but more for beautifull illustrations of birds.
I collect stamps of all birds but especially :
-Strigiformes (Owls)
-Coraciiformes (Kingfishers, Bee-Eaters, ...)
-Corvidae (Ravens, Crows, Magpies, Jays...)
And also some Spiders' stamps...
I've attached my little stock list to this mail so if someone's interessed by some exchange... e-mail me !
It's a tab/separated text file, if you want an Excel one... ask me !
Also, if you have some hints for a beginner...
I've often seen reference numbers on birds stamps in your mails and web pages... I guess it's ref. from a catalog but which one ?

It is possible to combine both of your interests....birding and sta
mps....I do.
I have searched by "birds on stamps" books and found the following:
Grenada Grenadines #296 an long-billed curlew
Maldive Is.#864, Netherlands #B355, Liechtenstein #537 alll
Eurasian curlew
Belize #520 an long-billed curlew
K
iribati #396 a Bristle-thighed curlew
That;s not many curlews considering how many bird stamps there are.
Now, the nos. are for the Scott catalog of stamps...anydealer will know what
you want. The bad part is that these are probably part of sets and dealers
don't like to break sets. Maybe trading would work. This is why we stamp
collectors have lots of extras.
I'm trying to put together stamps of birds I've seen. Maybe you
can tell that I'm new to computing so stamps have had to wait a bit.
Regarding the Finnish stamps, Not too many bird stamps. I'll sent
you the list another time.
Regarding you birding....where have you gone? or is it just backyard?
Either is great and interesting!!

Hello Dan: I also do not collect stamps and am much more interested in
birding than stamping. I found the stamps at a garage sale and thought they
might be worth something since they are in good condition and not used.
Have fun birding! When my kids leave for college (13+ years from now) I
hope to have more time to sit and watch the birds! Laura Farrell

Greetings-
I'm new to this list, and to be honest I'm not a stamp collector but more of
a bird enthusiast. Particularly the Eskimo curlew, but in general birds
associated with the Arctic and Antarctic. I thought I would try this list
out and see what happens.
I realize that the Eskimo curlew has not really figured on stamps, but I
have seen other curlews on stamps and I would like to see if I could
purchase some curlew stamps.
I'm also interested in some of the other bird stamps from Finland.
If you have any information please let me know.
cheers,
Dan

Dear Friends
Can I ask that members that have not registered their collecting interests
please go to the main site at
http://www.egroups.com/group/birds-on-stamps
where you can add your name to the database and register your collecting
interest by clicking on the "database" button you then need to "add an
entry" you can see the type of entries that have already been made by myself
If you collect all bird stamps please say so if you have a very narrow field
like mine of Kingfishers only this can help direct mail to individual
persons rather than the whole group.
Can I also request that members when posting mail attach their own personal
email address so that anyone replying can respond directly to the individual
rather than the whole group.
Another of our members has set up a web site listing the majority of birds
issued
Kjell Scharning site called Theme Birds on stamps

Hello, I am new to this group and have a question about some stamps I
acquired. I have a sheet of 50 USA bird stamps, one for each state in the
union. They were framed and used as a picture. The stamps are 20¢ stamps
and I don't remember how long ago 20¢ stamps were used. Does anyone have
any information about these? I'd like to know what year they were issued
and what their value would be today. Thank you. You can email me back at

Dear Eric,
What I mean by black print of Birds is French postage stamp which printed in
a piece of thick paper and has only one color Black or Blue and we also call
them as Semi Proof, at the upper leftside there is a letter of LA POSTE and
at the lower rightside there are a letter IMPRIMERIE DES TIMBRES-POSTE.
I know that only French Philately issue this Black Print.
Since I do not have a scanner, I will send a photocopy to you by mail.
Please give me your address.
