Hi all,

Today 8th, at 11.00, another Snowy Owl was reported, this time at the
Oostvaardersplassen (Flevoland). It was still there at 15.00 hrs. As you
might know, the previous one, two weeks ago, turned out to be an escape.

Day before yesterday, 6th, a Pygmy Cormorant was claimed near Houten
(Utrecht): this bird could not be found yesterday.

Yesterday the Nieuwegein (Utrecht) Hume's Leaf Warbler was still present.

Hi all,

present on 3rd, and a new one found on 5th, at Nieuwegein (Utrecht).
* two Ross's Geese both available: one at Strijen (Zuid-Holland) and one at
Tibma (Friesland).
* the Franklin's Gull of Kampen (Overijssel) was last reported on Thursday
2nd.
* a Great Northern Loon was sighted at Almere (Flevoland) on 5th.
* five Glaucous Gulls were seen: an adult summer at Den Helder,
first-winters at IJmuiden (two) and Petten (all Noord-Holland) and a
first-winter still at Rotterdam (Zuid-Holland).
* the Glossy Ibis still at Petten (Noord-Holland).

* an incredible early record of Common Cuckoo was the one, seen flying NE
near Uithoorn (Noord-Holland) on 2nd of March.
* not so incredibly early was the first reported Sand Martin, one at
Kraaijenbergse Plassen, Linden (Noord-Brabant) on 4th.

Hi all,
Good news for all french twitchers and the others, the MADORF sent its firts
message this morning : the surf Scoters at Oostduinkerke (B) wich is not really
french bird but they were the first rarities I seen today, the other was a
lesser white-fronted Goose near Blankenberge (B)
The MADORF is GSM system, a little different from belgian et british pagers :
when I see a bird, I call an operator and I tell him to send a message (name of
the bird, place...) to different phone numbers (people who are registred to
this system). After that all members will receve the message on their GSM
Only phone numbers from Itineris telecom can recevied messages.
Cheers,

A Whistling Swan (Cygnus columbianus columbianus) was reported this morning
close to lake Tysslingen, not far from the city of Örebro in Sweden. Örebro
can be found between Stockholm and Oslo (Norway). The latest report on our
pager system was 14:51 in the afternoon.

Whistling Swan is not considered a full species in Sweden.

Hi all, some news from Malta.

The Dusky Warbler (Phylloscopus fuscatus) reported on 29 January 2000 from Ghadira Nature Reserve (Malta) is still present, making almost daily appearance in front of the reception centre!.  This is the third record of this species in the Maltese Islands and the first wintering record.

On 14/15 th of February there were 2 Great White Egrets (Egretta alba) at the same Place.  These birds are very rare in our Islands.

That's all for now
keep on birding

Hi,

Here's some Belgian News :

* An adult male and a female SURF SCOTER (1st two for Belgium if accepted)
were found saturday 26th among a few 1,000 Common and Velvet Scoters on the
sea at Oostduinkerke,West-Vlaanderen. They were still present today (29th).

* The first-winter Bonaparte's Gull was last seen on Sunday 27th, but is
probably still present at Zeebrugge, West-Vlaanderen.

That's it.

Greetings

Ken Lossy, Mechelen, Belgium.

Dear Benoit,

I have fixed it. In future any replies should go automatic to the sender and not
to the entire list.

Hello everyone,

sorry for my last email that was obviously not
supposed to be sent to the list. I'm used to other
lists with the command reply to the sender only and I
have been surprised, when right after sending my
answer I saw it had been sent to the list...but it was
too late to cancel.

Well, being at the moment in the USA, I apologize for
not being able to give any twitch in Europe. However,
this week in Pennsylvania, an European Wigeon (male)
was found in Lancaster county. That is really amazing
to realize that for a bird I don't consider to be
"exceptional", american birders would drive hundreds
of miles!

Again, sorry for the previous email,

Benoit Paepegaey

Salut Maxime,

Sinon,
j'espere faire Cape May (New-Jersey) en mai juste

quand meme!

A+
Ben

Hello Birders,
2 Surf Scoters Melanitta perspicillata (male and female) were discovered
yesterday February 26 at Oostduinkerke. (at least the male was also seen on
the 27th).
On the road from Oostduinkerke to Koksijde turn right just before the 'Boot
Hotel'. Park at the end of this road and go to the top of the dunes on your
left. The bird(s) can been seen from here.
Greetings
Marnix

Hi birders,

NL 27.02.00 12:30 the Franklin's Gull in Holland has just been reported again.

Directions:
From Kampen (near Zwolle) take road 307 westward towards Dronten. After you
leave Kampen for less than 1 km (maybe only a few hundred meters) you will see
wet meadows or fields on both sides of the road. Here you have to check the
Black-headed Gulls carefully for the Franklin's Gull.

Info:
A new free mailing-list "European Twitching News" has been launched.
It is thought for the daily up-to-date rarity-reports from european countries
which you normally have to collect from various websites and mailing-lists. This
list could become an ideal information source for resident and travelling
birders.
