Along with the widened pavement on Frost Road, what is Bern Co. Public Works doing to keep vehicle speeds at or below posted limits? More enforcement? Traffic calming?
Wider roads and lanes allow drivers to feel safer at higher speeds which pose a greater threat of death to pedestrians, bicyclists, pets and wildlife. For reference, see http://www.walkinginfo.org/problems/problems-motorists.cfm

Subject: [bikeabq] Frost Road Shoulders/Trail
Bernalillo County Public Works is beginning a project on Frost Road. We will be constructing 5-foot wide paved shoulders along both sides of Frost Rd. from the NM 14/Frost Rd. intersection east to Vallecitos Rd. (approximately 3.5 miles) and an 8-foot wide, paved, multi-use trail along the south side of Frost Rd. from the NM 14/Frost Rd. intersection east to Camino Alto (approximately 1.9 miles).
We plan to begin milling the existing shoulders on Monday, 13 July 09. Many of you may have seen that the work on the trail began this week. The improvements are planned to be completed in October.
Please go to the Bernalillo County Website at for more information - Bernalillo County Road Construction Projects. Currently, the link to the PDF is broken but should be up early this week. If you would like the information sooner, please email me and I can forward the document.
Thanks for your patience.
