Live Electric Cable Exposed on Road Awaiting Disaster
By: Staff Reporter
Powai - 12 July 09 : They say, 'time and tide waits for nobody', in the same
vein 'death and disaster waits for nobody'. It seems that Reliance Energy has
not understood this age-old adage at least in Powai. For last more than four
months there are Four LIVE bunches of loose electric cable lying on the road
between the footpaths adjacent to SM Shetty School in Powai.
During rains water flows over these cable on this road. It is a death hazard to
children of the school and a pedestrians, the threat of electroculation is
imminent. What is troublesome is the indifferent attitude of the electricity
service provider responsible for distribution and maintenance here.
Residents and this newspaper have constantly been calling up Reliance Energy to
rectify the lapse, but of no avail. On one occasion a resident lodged a
complaint with the helpline, the only thing Reliance did was to remove the fuse
box and apply tape to the cable joints. The complete removal or putting proper
box at a height still needs to be done.
Sudhir Shetty a resident of JalvayuVihar said, "Though I have complained several
times to Reliance, but nothing happened. I have instructed my children studying
in the nearby school to be careful negotiating the area near the exposed cables.
We can only pray to god nothing untoward happens."
Residents just hope that Reliance Energy looks into this on a priority basis in
earnest.
