BIJLEE (Electricity) - The lifeline of any country.
A basic need, for everyday activities. A scarce resource. A great Leveler, required by one and all, alike, irrespective of caste, creed, religion, status, location, age…
This Group was started in February 2007, when we had:
* A regulator, unresponsive to consumer interest
* A monopoly, in the hands of private players
* A society, unaware of tariff fixation procedures
* A consumer, unaware of his Rights
Since then, we have spread awareness - of the Law, the Regulations, Consumers' Rights, Suppliers' duties and news events. We provided a forum where we could discuss technical issues, share legal & commercial knowledge and provide assistance & guidance wherever we could.
Things have changed since we started:
* The Regulator is more open to transparency
* The Consumer is more aware of his Rights
* The Suppliers are being made to follow the law, albeit reluctantly
* The Monopoly has been broken (at least in the Mumbai suburbs)
It is said, 'Change is the only constant.'
Let us also move on and look at how we can improve public participation in a positive manner.
Let this not degenerate into another 'Grievance Forum' and going forward, we will see a new light.
