Description
This group is for anyone anywhere in the world who is a Bielby by blood or marriage. The name Bielby, Beilby, Beelby, Bealby, Bilby, or other variations comes from a village in the East Riding Yorkshire area of northern England. The village Bielby used to be spelled Beilby, along with many other variant spellings. It was part of the Pocklington Estate several centuries ago. Pocklington, the town, is not many miles away from Bielby, where ducks & geese were raised for the Pocklington Estate. There are no Bielby's living in the village presently. All have migrated away to other cities, although some Bielby's are known to live in nearby York, England. This group is being formed with the hope that Bielby's or Beilby's desiring to get to know the various parts of our family heritage will be able to connect here and share information and get to know one another. The current photo is of the St. Giles (Anglican) Church in Bielby. This Church is over 900 years old.
Less than two miles from the village of Bielby is another village called Hayton. On the outskirts of Hayton is an archeological site with the remains of an ancient Roman soldier fort. From the air one can still see the outline of the foundation of the fort.
