Denuncian maltrato contra el último desobediente civil viequense: Ismael Guadalupe Torres
El Comité Pro Rescate y Desarrollo de Vieques denuncia el maltrato y la persecusión contra el último desobediente civil por la paz de Vieques todavía en la cárcel federal, Ismael Guadalupe Torres, miembro de la Juventud Viequense Unida (JVU). "Ismaelito" fue enviado al "hoyo" de esa institución el pasado viernes, donde se le obliga a dormir en el piso en condiciones pésimas. Según indicó su padre, Ismael Guadalupe Ortiz, "Ismaelito" le había comunicado de un aumento en la hostilidad de algunos carceleros a partir de los actos del primero de mayo, cuando uno de los guardias provocó una fuerte discusión con el preso. Recientemente fue acusado de conspirar vía teléfono - todas sus llamadas están grabadas y continuamente monitoreadas - para introducir un teléfono celular a la cárcel. Esta falsa acusación surge después de una llamada telefónica con su novia en la cual jamás se habló de tal acción y luego de otra conversación con su padre en la cual se le menciona la acusación. Otro confinado que comparte la celda con él también fue llevado al hoyo, injustamente acusado de ser "complice".
Sus llamadas telefónicas han sido restringidas a una sola por semana y las visitas de sus familiares se le han terminado. Según Guadalupe Ortiz, "... es obvio que lo quieren mantener aislado y que no haya comunicación con nosotros en esta última semana de su sentencia."
Añadió el padre del desobediente encarcelado, "... muchos de estos empleados Federales son afines a lo sectores más derechistas de Puerto Rico. Muchos han conseguido trabajo como carceleros por la intervención de algún político del ala derechista del Partido Nuevo Progresista. De ahí el trato cruel de algunos carceleros contra los que hemos sido encarcelados por desobediencia civil."
Hacemos un llamado a todos y todas que envíen cartas a la prisión dirigidas a Ismaelito. Mientras, los preparativos de su salida que se supone sea el martes 10 de junio contnúan. El lunes 9 de junio habrá una vigilia en los campamentos al lado de la prisión Federal. Algunos nos amaneceremos para recibir a el último desobediente.
El martes, 3 de junio a las 5 de la tarde, la Coordinadora Todo Puerto Rico con Vieques ha convocado una manifestación en apoyo a Ismaelito frente a la cárcel federal.

Viequenses denounce mistreatment of last civil disobedient in federal prison: Ismael Guadalupe Torres
The Committee for the Rescue and Development of Vieques denounces the mistreatment and persecution against the last civil disobedient for peace on Vieques in federal prison, Ismael Guadalupe Torres, member of the Vieques Youth United. "Ismaelito" was sent to the "hole" of that institution last Friday, where he has been forced to sleep on the floor in terrible conditions. According to his father, Ismael Guadalupe Ortiz, "Ismaelito had mentioned an increase in the hostile attitudes from some prison guards as a result of the acts of May first, when one guard provoked a heated discussion with the prisoner. Recently, he was accused of conspiring by telephone - his calls are recorded and constantly monitored - to bring a cellular phone into the prison. This false accusation ocurred after a phone call with his girlfriend in which this type of action was never discussed and after another conversation with his father in which Ismaelito mentioned the accusation. Ismaelito's cell mate was also sent to the hole, unjustly accused of being and "accomplice".
His phone calls are now restricted to one a week and family visits have ended. According to Guadalupe Ortiz, "...obviously they wish to isolate him and stop communication between us during this last week of his sentence."
The jailed disobedients father added, "... many of the Federal employees have ties to the most right wing elements of Puerto Rico. Many get their jobs as prison guards through intervention of some politician from the right wing of the New Progressive Party. This helps explain the cruel treatment dished out by some guards against those of us who have been jailed for civil disobedience."
We call on everyone to write to Ismaelito in prison. Meanwhile, preparations continue for his release scheduled for June 10th.l On the 9th, there will be a vigil at the Pro Vieques Camps next to the federal prison, when some of us will spend the night on guard waiting for the release of the last disobedient.
On Tuesday, 3 June at 5pm, the Coordinating Group All Puerto Rico with Vieques, will hold a demonstration in support of Ismaelito in front of the federal prison.
