"Bhakti is a kind of knowledge so precious that it robs everything else of interest."
-- Sri Ramanuja
The Bhakti List is dedicated to discussing Vedanta, as systematized by the Indian philosopher Ramanuja (12th century). The religious philosophy of Sri Ramanuja is known by various names, including Sri Vaishnavam, Visishtadvaita, and Ubhaya Vedanta.
The principal sources of inspiration for the followers of Ramanuja are the Upanishads, the Bhagavad Gita, and the mystic poems of the Alvar saints. Using these root texts as a foundation, many pious scholars have contributed erudite and moving commentaries and poetry which are also treasured as scripture in the tradition.
Ramanuja and his forebears are also credited with spearheading the broader devotional movement within Indian religion, which is now the lifeblood of modern India's religious practice.
