Chicago, (aka "Big Shoulders") has deep roots with bluegrass. In the early 1900's, workers out of the deep south flooded to our industrialized north for jobs, romance and hard times. The big city streets were mean and unforgiving. Taunted by a longing for home, the old-time country and blues suddenly had a new poetic force. Since the founding of the WLS National Barn Dance in 1924, Chicago has been a key in the lyrical development of American roots music. Today, the mean streets of "Big Shoulders" has given rise to a gritty backstreet sound in local bluegrass, alt-country, and old-time music. We are proud of our new flock of tough alt-bluegrass bands.
Brought to you by Chip Covington, member of Bluegrass Wings and Whiskey Hollow Band. Dedicated to the late great Bill Monroe (and Muddy Waters) and the Chicago bluegrass underground. Don't forget to jam and support local concerts like BLUEGRASS LEGENDS CONCERTS
