Description

Do you think that modern processed "foods" are major contributors to the current epidemic of chronic and degenerative diseases? Do you think that common sense nutrition shouldn't be an oxymoron? Fed up with the way that every new study reshuffles the deck of which foods are healthy and which are not?

So are we.

Just how did people stay healthy before government agencies, corporations and scientists took over the role of telling us what healthy nutrition is? There is evidence that in recent history, a number of traditional and primitive groups were robustly healthy and almost completely free of chronic and degenerative diseases while on their native diets.

We think that Weston Price’s study of 14 isolated traditional and primitive groups in the 1930s, provides a good starting point for the exploration of healthy traditional nutrition. Price traveled the world to study these isolated groups that had never had contact with modern foods. The pattern of these diverse groups was clear - those who ate their native diet enjoyed robust good health. Other researchers such as Mann and Stefansson had similar findings.

The purpose of this group is to explore nutrition from a global and historical perspective. To investigate the nutrition and lifestyles of healthy traditional peoples prior to the displacement of their native diets with modern foods. And to help put modern notions of what constitutes healthy nutrition and lifestyle, into this broader context.

While studies of traditional nutrition provide an important reference point when confronted with modern research that is often conflicting and confusing, we don’t believe that any single researcher, group or organization has all the answers, rather that each provides pieces of the puzzle. As such, we encourage list members to apply analytical rigor to ALL nutrition information regardless of the source.
